The waiter i spent my first day off with, who is now one of my closest friends in Mexico!
i was graced with a day off today... and it was one of the best days of my life... I met up with one of the waiters of los danzantes (la rana/diego) around 13:00 and went to have a post hang-over beer.. we ended up talking till 16:30, then went to the 2 main markets in oaxaca. I finally realized 3 dreams of mine: to see a stand at a market that only sells chiles, to eat a chapulin (a dried spiced cricket... they're actually good.. although the small ones are better than the big ones for obvious reasons....), and to eat from a stand in a Mexican market... and not only was it a stand...
There was a whole hall on one side of the market where you had people selling cuts of meat ready to be cooked ( w chorizos & co) and a bbq right next to them.. and they're all calling out for you to come eat at their spot... and each one has its own seating area off to the ends of the hall.. plumes of smoke drift up from the red hot grills, permeating the hall with the aroma of bbq'd meat, we got side

The waiter i ended up having the conversation with, also one of my best friends in Mexico!!!!!
dishes (i got guacamole, pico de gallo -cilantro, fresh chile, tomato, and onion-, and nopales -boiled cactus leaves-) from a stand literally in front of where we ate... bought some apple sodas from the stand behind us, and had a feast, the whole thing coming with 6 fresh, warm tortillas... it was spectacular... Im DEFINITELY going back bc you can also buy vegetables at the market and get them to cook them for you too... i cant wait!!!!!!!!!!
We then waked around more till about seven thirty, me taking all of the sights and sounds and smells in like a sponge. Oaxaca is really beautiful, it has lots of beautiful churches and brightly colored, one story buildings, and in the main square (el zocalo) thereĀ“s a cathedral and many huge trees with exposed, finger-like roots...
i went back to the hostel to wash up & relax a bit, then went to La Embajada (the first bar where i ended up on my first day and the place where all my coworkers go out to...) and on monday its free Mezcal night...
😊
In the meantime I had one of the most meaningful conversations of my life with one of the
