La Mesa
This is the table. It will give you an idea how many people we fit into a tiny space! Hola Queridos Amigos
I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. Just so everyone knows, this is definitely the hardest part of being an exchange student! The homesickness is almost unbearable. But once you make it through you realize that you actually are getting a really great blessing. Like my family said, I am seeing and experiencing things you guys can't even imagine. You realize you can make it through the rest of the year. In fact two more days and I will hit the 5 month mark. That means I have 5 and 1/2 months left. I am almost halfway done. I want you to all know how much I missed you. You were in my thoughts, my heart, and my prayers. I love you all SO much. You don't realize what you have until you have to go without it. You really do a lot of growing up when you live in another country. But, I know you are all dying to hear how we celebrated Christmas so I won't keep you waiting.
Noche Buena aka Christmas Eve
We spent the day cleaning the house. I swept my room and the room where we keep the tv. Then I

For my host mom, I got here a new little wood table-like thing for cutting stuff because she likes cooking and I noticed the ones she had were old. For my host father, I bought a tie and a little pocket watch. It had an eagel, like the mexican flag, and mountains, which I liked because Tepic is surrounded by mountains. For Fabiola, I gave her a like make up kit with eyeshadow and lipsticks. Gaby is an artist so I bought her a picture frame. Lebrac is a computer guy so I got him a few blank CDs for his music. I had no idea what to get Luis, so I bought his some shampoo for his car and told him I would wash his car. For his wife, Carol, I bought a body mist. For their son, Luisito, I got him so block type things. And last but not least, Carol is pregnant with a little girl, so I got the new baby a pink, really soft blanket. I called my family and wished them a Merry
Las Piñatas
Here is me with the Piñata. We had two, a boy and a girl. Christmas. All of Carol's family came here from Guadalajara. I mean everybody. It was her mom, dad, her 2 sisters, her sister's husband and his parents and grandparents. It was a lot of people to cook for when we were already trying to cook a huge dinner for Christmas Eve, so we went out for hamburgers. We got back and I watched TV and went on the computer. Then I got ready for the dinner. We finally started eating around 11 p.m. There was a lot of people. My aunt Chata, My aunt Grace, her two children, Pepe and Gracie, and then Gracie's children, Natalie and David and of course Carol's family. All together I think we had around 20 people. It was good though. We had turkey, beef, potatoes, salad, and a lot of soda! We finished eating around 12 and went outside to do the
piñatas. It was good, but the only child was Natalie because David and Luisito were asleep. Everyone broke the
piñatas though. There was candy everywhere. They sang a song that I am gonna learn for when we have
piñatas back home. It was a really catchy toon. We went inside and had a
Mis Regalos
Here are all my presents. game. It was kinda like a yankee swap, but alittle different. There was a basket of gifts. We rolled a dice and if we got an even we got to take a gift. I got a gift! yay! We had four rounds. The second round you needed to get odds. The third round was evens again, and the fourth round was odds. Once everyone had a gift, you could steal from someone. For example if it was an even round and you rolled a 2, you could steal a gift from anyone you wanted. I ended up with no gift. 😞 Finally we actually exchanged the gifts we bought for each other. It was really fun. The kept chanting this phrase.
¡Que lo abren! ¡Que lo disfrutas!
It translates too
Open and Enjoy!
My family really liked my gifts I think. I got A LOT of chocolate, a towel, a nightlight, and a picture frame. It was ok, but I was kinda hoping for a book about Mexico or just something a little more meaningful. Although, the picture frame is very pretty and if I get a picture of my family here it just might do the trick. We finally finished around 2:45 a.m. and everyone went
Luisito con su mami
This is a really pretty picture of Luisito and his mom, Carol. She is super nice. I might actually go visit them in Guadalajara in a month. Right now they don't have furniture or I would go right now. Plus Carol works, but she will soon be on maternity leave so I can visit her then. home. I was exhausted and pretty much fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
La Navidad aka Christmas
We literally did nothing. We just relaxed. I played with Luisito, went online, watched tv, and read a book. We ate leftovers. It was really just mellow. I liked it. It wasn't all that different from the USA. That is how the people in Mexico spent Christmas. I hope you enjoyed this lovely blog and I hope you learned something. At the very least, you learned a little spanish. I don't have plans for today, but quite possibly tomorrow I am gonna have a slumber party with some of my friends. It should be a lot of fun. Oh and the countdown begins. 6 more days until we have officiailly entered the year 2007! And on top of that, I will be changing families in about 2 weeks and for days. I don't wanna!!! 😞
Have a happy and safe New Year.
Love,
Shayna
P.S. I have more pictures of Christmas. I am going to put them on my Snapfish or Photobucket so just ask and I will send you the link. These pictures are really more teasers than the real thing.
