We are 200 kms from Guadalajara. A flat tire on the HD (of course...) prevented us from reaching our destination yesterday. Luckily, our brother Luc is making a delivery of a new tire this morning so we can pursue our journey. Otherwise, we would have visited "Tepic" for too long a stay, although Andre doesn't seem to mind the late night scenery here. Otherwise, a worry free 12 hour ferry crossing of the Mar de Cortes to Mazatlan during the night (my very first "cruise" - I had to leave the "too claustrophobic for my taste" cabin to sleep on the deck and watch the stars... Bonjour la gang,le voyage est toujours aussi extraordinaire.L'autoroute payante est tres payante, genre 16.00$ par moto pour pas long au Mexique.Tres beau bateau que nous avons pris et tres propre.Andre ... read more

So as most of you know- I'm in Mexico for about a month helping out a missionary family in Tepic. Emily Cormier who is from Sussex originally but studying sciences in Halifax is also here to help out. Neither of us knew of each other's plans to come but both planned for almost identical dates. She is staying 10 days longer and arrived just a bit before me. So far both of us have been helping the children with their school work- Emily usually helps them with their sciences and math while I help them with their history, geography and language arts. Every day so far has been very busy- the days start at 6:30am when we go for an hour long walk. We then come home and have breakfast around 7:30am. Afterwards we clean up ... read more

We made our first of many border cossings fearing the worst, the guide books suggest complications in particular if you have to import vehicles, which we have to for all the countries on route. Our initial observations was the sudden change from the orderly systems of the U.S. to the hustle and bustle of Mexico. Cars and people weaving about, horns blaring etc... . Our transition through immigration and importation were slightly better than anticipated, taking about 2 hours. It could have been quicker but for the subtle differences between European and Mexican Spanish. 'El coche´ in European Spanish means car and in Mexican means pig, anyway with our newly aquired pig permit we headed south 60 miles to Ensenada. We chose to stay our first two nights in a hostel recommended in the guide books ... read more

Queridos Amigos, I hope everyones New Year went well. Mine was fun. I have been really busy so please forgive me for not writing. I will catch you up now though. It is almost a week though so it could get long. Jueves (Thursday) - My 5 Month Anniversary Well, the morning I spent in the house being bored. I was suppose to go to the movies with a bunch of my friends, but none of them could so I went by myself. It was actually really nice. I saw Una Noche en el Museo, also known as One Night in the Museum. It was a really cute movie. If you are ever bored on a rainy day it is a nice thing to go see. Then I walked around the mall. I bought myself a ... read more

¡Hola Todos! How is everyone? I hope all is well. I went to a very fun party last night. It was my classmate Pepe’s birthday. I spent the day at home but it was pretty cool. My cousins from San Francisco came over for lunch. They are going back home, which is kinda sad because I had fun with the little girl Natalie. So I spent the rest of the afternoon getting ready for the party. The end result was pretty good. The party was at 7 and like a half-hour away, but I didn’t leave until 7 so I was late. I was still the first person there though. We ate, drank, talked, and listened to music. I actually made a lot of new friends. They were really nice. They even invited me to spend ... read more

Hola Queridos Amigos I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. Just so everyone knows, this is definitely the hardest part of being an exchange student! The homesickness is almost unbearable. But once you make it through you realize that you actually are getting a really great blessing. Like my family said, I am seeing and experiencing things you guys can't even imagine. You realize you can make it through the rest of the year. In fact two more days and I will hit the 5 month mark. That means I have 5 and 1/2 months left. I am almost halfway done. I want you to all know how much I missed you. You were in my thoughts, my heart, and my prayers. I love you all SO much. You don't realize what you have until you ... read more

Well I have an excellent excuse for not writing. I hung out with my friend for the past two days. I went to my friend, Carmen's resturant around 6 on Friday. It is called El Campo Real. I got their just as her little brother, Jesús's birthday party was ending. He is now 5. We went to the movies with her cousins, her little brothers, and her exchange student brother, Johnny the Gun from Thailand. We saw the Santa Claus 3. It wasn't very good. I wouldn't recommend it. I ended up sleeping over. We watched Pirates of the Carribean, but I was tired so I kinda passed out before we finished. I woke up the next morning just as Carmen's mom and dad were leaving. They told me to put on a video so I ... read more

¡Hola! Last night was by far the best night of my life her in México so far. I was sitting at the computer around 5 when my host mother asked me if I wanted to go to a Quinceañera, which is a 15-year-old girls birthday party. It is very fancy, so I got all dressed up and we were off the the church at 6. We first had to stop and buy a gift for Blanca, La Quinceañera. We got her a pretty little necklace, bracelet, and earring set. The first part of the Quinceañera was held in the church. It was a lot like a wedding. It was beautiful. The dress Blanca was wearing was gorgeous. We arrived late so I missed most of what happened. We came in at the part where everyone was ... read more

Hey Everyone, How is everyone doing on this fine day? I am doing super. Why you might ask. Well today is my first day of vacation. I am so excited !! I won't have to go back to school until January 8th, 2007! I still didn't get my gift from the Yankee Swap but oh well. I am too happy and nothing is going to make me upset or sad. Let me catch you up with my life so far. ¨ Monday Night Monday night was pretty awesome. I didn't go to the concert because my friend never called me. Big shock, I know. I am working on accepting that is how people here are. They are always late or sometimes just don't call and/or show up. I am super compulsive about that type of stuff. ... read more

¡Hola mis amigos! I had a very busy weekend! Friday On Friday, I had the day off from school. A very nice break I must say. I was online and my friend, Gilberto, invited me to a play at his acting school. It was a really beautiful play. Its called Jesús el Hombre Luz or Jesus the man of light. As you can guess, it was about Jesus's life. It had dancing, singing, and acting. I was really just awesome. I left for my café at 6 because my friend (well actually no one) didn't know where my house was. We met his brother at an ice cream shop and then we were off to the play. It didn't take to long because we took a taxi. The play ended around 10-10:30ish. After the play we ... read more
