One step closer to taking the plunge...

Planning the summer adventure to Ecuador has been interesting, educational and rewarding. I have made contact with a few people who either live in Quito or are currently travelling there and everyone has been very positive about our idea. Thanks to the internet I have also seen some amazing photos and read about some exciting ecolodges, which is one of our priorities.

I found an award winning Hostel in the City called "The Secret Garden" and it is exactly the type of place we are looking for in terms of location, price, and character. We are partial to a rooftop terrace and it looks like they have a nice one. The other bonus of a place like that is the opportunity to meet up with travellers from all corners, share information and recommendations for further destinations. They also have every conceivable ammenity one could possibly need on a trip like this.

I was lucky enough to get an e-mail from a woman who has lived in Quito for 39 years and she made some good recommendations which I've put in our growing travel file. She is coming to Vallarta in Oct. for the yearly Tri-Association conference so I'll be able to thank her in person.

It looks like tomorrow or the next day we'll take the full plunge and actually purchase our plane tickets which is always an exciting activity. Yahoo Travel ended up having the best price of all the cheap ticket search engines I could find, so we are looking at at price of $560.00 US per person--not too shabby considering they were quoting me about the same price for Tuxtla Gutierriez and that's still in Mexico.
