Every now and then, it just so happens that I travel to a place without really knowing all that much about it. I might go following a recommendation from a fellow traveller or a guidebook, having read a newspaper or magazine article about the place. Or maybe I've seen a photo of it somewhere. To me, a very reliable source when it comes to places worth visiting is the UNESCO World Heritage List, wh... Read Full Entry

Why didn't I think of that?
I'm sitting here wondering why I have never thought to look up the UNESCO World Heritage list... I shall check it out over a glass of wine tonight. Thanks for the tip :)

Hope you found some inspiration
No worries, there are some real gems on that list. Hope you enjoyed the wine! :)

Unesco Heritage Sites
We often use these as a guide to things we want to see. This town sounds lovely. We will have to add it to our list.

Those sites are worth it!
Good to hear you like to visit World Heritage Sites as well. SMA is definitely worth a visit, if only for the strange clash of cultures between locals and foreign residents.

Too chic for me!
Glad you got to visit Gringolandia! I've been all over Mexico, but the prices in popular San Miguel and Cuernavaca mean I've never visited them--quite charming, thanks. While those bars sound depressing, I loved the murals, plazas and mercado. Incidentally, I also carry UNESCO's World Heritage list when I travel, because like you, I've always found these spots rewarding. Buen viaje!

It is a bit gentrified, really
It's actually not too expensive if you go drinking at cantinas instead of bars catering for gringos, and if you eat the street food or at one of the cheap eateries. I think it's still worth going, just for the atmosphere and the art that's everywhere. But yeah, I'd also rather hang out with Mexicans in a less-touristy place. Thanks for commenting! Jens

Mexican beat
Great to see you enbracing the Mexican beat. Enjoy the ride. Great murals, colours, food and company sounds like its coming together nicely. And then there was the music...

That Mexican vibe
Thanks, Dave! I certainly enjoyed the ubiquitous music and art a lot. I wouldn't mind at all following the Mexican beat for a bit. Gives you a different perception of time and space.
