Friday March 18th, Linda left school at noon in order for us to catch our 3:30 flight, first to Atlanta, then on to Paris, and arriving in Milan, Italy at 2:30 Saturday afternoon! Laundry

It is common to see undergarments of all colors hanging above the streets and canals

Notice the markers that tell the boats where to go and how fast they can travel

we watched while our guide explained the processes used to create beautiful and intricate pieces both large and small

famous for its' brightly colored buildings and lace-making

Each dwelling is colored differently, this must be a starter home

Vaporetto

They carry a lot of people at a time and ferry people around Venice and between islands

San Marcos Basilica and Dogge Palace

Beautiful, huge, well preserved buildings, we toured both on Thursday

Very decorative, tiny tiles both on the floor and on the ceilings

The Dogge was like a Prime Minister, the head of state but did not have much power, they had a representative body that made the laws of justice and finance

The courtyard inside the palace is just as ornate as the exterior

Past the famous "Bridge of Sighs", we were able to tour through the dungeons

Off Season

We were glad to be visiting Venice in late March as tourist season begins at Easter, there was still many people about. Venice grows from 60,000 to 400,000

A Must Stop

Chocolate factory, free samples, no need to leave hungry, great desert for Saturday morning breakfast

Vineyards

Any place not occupied, there are vineyards, no leaves or growth yet

GoldenEye

at the top of a huge hyro dam, the world's most famous bungy jump, used in James Bond movies

Hydro Dam

The bungee jump is 220 meters, that's along ways down

Picturesque River

On our way up the mountains, we climbed the rocks

Bridge over troubled waters

Marie and Bernard actually jumped off the rock just under the bridge, it was a long way down, and, the water was clean and clear

Somehow, Bernard and Marie were able to find this hiking trail they had been on their first weeek in Switzerland
