Well I made it to México city! I was sick the first couple of days but after some much needed rest and after hearing that they found Lucy mi gatito (¡depúes de tres semanas!) I feel better. yay! Today was very eventful. I went to the templo mayor, which is the main temple for the aztec empire tenochitlan, all of mexico city sits atop what used to be Tenochitlan, which was a village of 200,000, peaking in the early 1300´s and sat in the middle of a lake. Anyway they uncoverd the ruins of this temple in the late 1970´s. It was pretty cool to walk through the ruins and then read all about the city and see artifacts in el museo templo mayor. I could almost imagine what the old city looked like before Cortez distroyed it all...
Yay manifest destiny!
So now onto Palacio Nacional con murales de Diego Rivera. This huge building is just east of el Zócalo and I guess the historic center of the government of mexico. Still in use? Really I just went to see the Rivera murals. Which depict a history of mexico starting from the natives thru marxist era. Some of the scenes were very moving and all beautiful.
Today is good friday which makes for a very busy day in la Plaza de la Constitución. Many mexicans are on the move this holy week. There are water shortages in Mexico city because of all the people here for Easter! The hostel shuts off water from 11p to 6a and we were all told to conserve. ¡Que loco!
