Ready to Go
back to Canada, suitcases full of gifts December 18th, and we are off for home, Canada! We enjoyed a leisurely morning and headed to the airport around noon. We arrived in Saskatoon at 12:30 A.M. and were greeted by..........3out 4 grandchildren, of course. What a welcome! A banner and smiles all around! Leslie and her 3 children were waiting for us as was Aaron, who gave us a ride home. There Linda and I were at 2 in the morning, looking out the picture window at the beautiful winter scene displayed outside while standing in our warm and toasty home. We had never appreciated central heating that much before. Marty, who lives downstairs, has the thermostat set at 75, it is cooler down there than it is upstairs and we mellowed in the heat. Sunday, up and at it. You guessed it, couldn't wait to get outside and shovel snow and enjoy the fresh crisp air. Later Leslie, Gracie, Sawyer, and Easton come over as well as other family and friends. Late into the afternoon, we are off to Langham to see Linda's parents, Alec and Doris, and they prepared a feast of our favorite foods for supper.
Monday and Tuesday we spent looking after things in
Grandchildren
Sawyer (3.5), Easton (almost 2), Gracie (6) Saskatoon and visiting friends. Wednesday, we headed to Marshall to celebrate Gracie's 6th Birthday. They get big so fast! Christmas was spent with all of our families in Saskatoon and Langham, and then in between Christmas and New Years, we spent time at Tyler's on the farm and at Table Mountain, our local ski hill where Linda got 2 days of snowboarding in. New Year's Eve was spent with Luc and Colette, and on New Year's Day, we headed up to Marc's place at Livelong. We attended Pam and Ken's wedding, which gave us another chance to spend time with all of our grandchildren. On Sunday, we meandered our way back to Saskatoon, stopping first in North Battleford to visit Jerald and Lorna, then my Mom and Dad, then on to Langham for yet another feast, and finally a short visit at Gisele's. Then it was time to head for our home in Mexico City to rest!
4:30 A.M. and we were at the airport, our plane needed mechanical attention. We missed our connector flight in Minneapolis, and ended up taking the scenic route via Atlanta, landing here in DF at 9 P.M. instead of 3 in the afternoon. Fortunately,
We are so lucky
Holding and cuddling our grandchildren our luggage followed us on the next flight, so we hung around the airport and collected our luggage at midnite! What a long day, fortunately, Linda did not have to teach until Wednesday, so we had Tuesday to rest and settle in. We spent the week getting back into routine, and then on Saturday, took the touribus to see parts of DF that we haven't yet. We had a great margerita in San Angel, then headed to a colonial called Coyoacuan which turns out to have the charm of old village Mexico right here in the heart of the city. There were people tradionally dressed selling beadwork and jewelry of course, and a nice market as well. Sunday turned out to be another beautiful day, the weather has been warm all through January, highs of 23-26 and nights not bad at all at 7-9 degrees, we have been more comfortable than we were in December. So off we went to Chapultepec Park, the second largest urban park in the world, and it's walking distance for us. We decided to go on the paddle boats on the lake, the park has 3 lakes, and I discovered that paddle boating is not
Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve at Cory's first apartment so much fun, I still don't think Linda was paddling at all! It was pretty and the ice cream helped make a nice walk back home. We spent the next week in our routine. We meet our friends for supper out once a month, we ride the ecobics, and time manages to slip by. There is such a demand for after school tutoring that Linda has taken on several grade 5 students from other classes, she can't tutor her own students, we are approaching exams and the parents want extra help for their little ones. She wanted to experience tutoring, and goes to the student's home and then the chaufeur drives her home. She gets to practice her Spanish with the driver too. On Saturday, Jan 22nd, we joined other teachers for a trip organized by the school to a town called Malinalco, about 2 hours out of the city. They provide us with a box lunch, bus ride out, and then treated us to a wonderful comida (late lunch), all for about $12 per person. We climbed to the ruins of the eagle and the sun, visited the cathedral and a convent and were back home by 6:30. Then
Linda's Parents
what a feast they prepared for us to welcome us back, in fact, they hosted us 3 times Sunday morning, we took advantage of the Reforma walk and bike. They block off all traffic on this main street in Mexico City. We met Megan, biked for 45 minutes and then enjoyed the food, the sights and the shopping around the Zocalo. There is always so much activity with many things to see there. We never tire of visiting city center. And then, finally, we celebrated Linda's Birthday on Jan 25th. Normal school day for her, well, maybe not quite normal, her students showered her with gifts and cake. Once home, she managed to get a workout in before company started to show up and she realized that we were going to have a party. I hadn't let her see the living room, it was a surprise for her and it was only when the doorbell rang she knew we were going to celebrate. A beautiful bouguet of flowers, crackers, cheese, fesh cut vegetables, dip, and all our closest friends from Mexico joined in celebrating. After snacks and drinks here, we went to Linda's favorite taco restaurant to end the evening.
