Company's here
we were so excited that Colette and Luc had arrived As you can see by the title, we have had a busy 3 weeks. Luc and Colette brought with them a long awaited taste of home, with both arriving Saturday night, Luc from Dubai, and Colette later on from Saskatoon. However, the three of us failed to realize that she was arriving at terminal 2 instead of terminal 1, so unfortunately, we were not there to greet her at the gate. Again, we apologize! Sunday, we proudly showed them our neighbourhood riding the ecobics. Sunday evening, we headed to the Zocalo to watch the celebration "Viva Mexico" along with thousands of others. This spectacle ran from Nov 11 to Nov 23rd, and featured music, singing and dancing while a spectacular light show transformed the buildings surrounding the Zocalo. Smoke, lights, mists, music all combine to thrill the senses. Monday, having realized that we had misplaced Luc's travel documents, Luc and I backtrack all the way back to the airport, checked with lost and found, even found the taxi driver from Saturday night, but no luck. The documents were no where to be found. So Tuesday, Luc and I are off to the Canadian Embassy to start the process of replacing documents
Morning on the Terrace
where we do laundry, BBQ and lay in the sun while Linda and Colette headed to the Zocalo to tour and shop. Wednesday, to the bus depot, and off we went to Taxco, luxury coach of course. We arrived in the afternoon, found a hotel close to the Zocalo and settled in. We strolled through the narrow cobblestone streets, enjoyed a rooftop supper and the lights and sights. Thursday found Colette sick in bed for the day, so the remaining three of us explored Taxco, took the gondola ride up the other mountain and shopped and enjoyed drinks and stories from the waiter at the luxurious hotel located there. We headed back to Mexico City on Friday, visited Balderas, a large traditonal market, and enjoyed the sights and sounds of DF. Saturday, we visited the San Angel area and market of the city. Later we skype the family back home and make arrangements with Rick, another brother-in-law, to watch the Grey Cup together. Early Sunday morning, we saw Colette off for Canada. Luc and I headed off to Puerto Vallarta to look after things there, arriving early enough to access the internet and watch the Freu Cup game. Linda went back to teaching for the week and I arrived back
The Ecobics
we rode through Parque Mexico which is only a little ways from home from PV on Thursday.
Then Saturday, after I scanned our documents in case we ever lose ours, something Luc had done which made it much easier for him, and Linda was done doing homework, we left for Tepoztlan, a town about an hour and a half south of the city. Short cab ride to the Zocalo, ask around for a decent hotel, and by suppertime we are settled into the Posada. We then strolled the Zocalo and area and managed to find a restaurant that had been recommended to us, and enjoyed a fine meal in very classy surroundings. We discovered a path that led to an archeological site that evening, and vowed to climb the next morning. Sunday morning, as we are sipping our coffee on our balcony surrounded by flowers and sunshine, I noticed a man-made structure at the top of the mountain that we were able to distinguish better using the zoom on the camera. Little did we know that that was where the path up the mountain led. Off at ten in the morning we went, water bottle and camera in hand. We ended up climbing for well over an hour, stopping often to rest
Luxury coach
notice the calf rests similar to recliner chairs because of the uneven, rough, rock path and steep grade of the climb. Half way up, we met a lady who spoke a bit of English, and she assured us there was something at see at the top, and that we were not climbing only for the fun of it. At the top FINALLY, and greeted by the most aggressive lemurs we have ever seen, one jumped into a lady's purse, another ripped a picnic bag out of a girl's hands, and they devoured the picnic quickly! The view was spectacular, and worth the climb. It is a spiritual place, and there were elderly people struggling to make the climb. Then, the downhill part was as difficult as the climb, because of the strain on the knees, and our legs shaking with tiredness. But we made it down, checked out of the hotel and rode the bus back into the city; overall, a very worthwhile quick trip out of DF. Another week of teaching for Linda, and then, Friday right after school, to Taxquena bus station AGAIN and by 4pm, we are on a bus to Acapulco, a 5 hour ride. I had reserved a room at a hotel I
had found online, and when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel and location were. We checked in and then went for a stroll along the beach. When we checked in, they asked if we wanted a quiet room, or a room with a view. Being good sleepers, we elected for the room with the view and a king bed. It was spectacular, overlooking the ocean, with only a street and a row of restaurants and nightclubs between us and the beach. But at 9 each night, the Paradise Club 21 floors below and directly across the street would crank up the bass of the music and rock and roll till 3 AM. We slept fine regardless. We spent our time walking the beach, exploring the city including, yes, the Zocalo, and laying in the sun. We enjoyed the people, mostly Mexican families and very few foreigners. Sunday, we checked out at 1 pm, then spent the afternoon by the pool, had an early buffet supper at the hotel, then headed for home. We went to the bus depot to catch our 5:30 bus, landed up missing it because we couldn't understand the loudspeaker fellow AND
Look Up
you do a lot of that in Taxco we were visiting to much. So we made arrangements to catch the 10 pm bus, went back to the Zocalo, checked up on emails at the internet cafe, had a few beers, got on the bus and slept all the way back to DF. We got the right cab driver to take us home, 150 k's per hour, down to 130 for the hills and when we go by two cops with their lights on, but parked on the side of the street and only 80 through the red lights. This is 3 in the morning granted, but we didn't mind, we were home in 13 minutes flat............and content to be back home again. We slept fast and Linda made it to school for the last week of school
