Late October and we are nicely into BBQ season, the weather is ideal, 22-24 during the day, 12-14 at night. Linda says when she arrives at school at 6:45 am it is 60 F according to the thermometer. Nov 1st, the big day in Mexico, off to see the truly traditional celebration in Mixquic, the most southern part of Mexico City, 2.5 hours to get there by city bus...and we got to sit!

in Mixquic these are decorated, and hundreds of people view and celebrate the return of their dead

the husband jumps out of his coffin and dances lewdly while the women in his life grieve

the bonfires are at every household entrance and keep the bad spirits out, the crowds will celebrate all night long

Creepy!
This whole 'Day of the Dead' thing looks and sounds creepy to me. However, it does seem like the Mexican people sure like to celebrate-- any excuse for a party?
