We left Catavina at about 8.30 am on Valentine's Day. The drive was very interesting to the coast here in Bahia de los Angeles. The drive here was quite a show. South and east from Catavina, we came across more boulders and cactus and passed thru the Valle de Cirios. Cirios are the tall spiny type of cactus that grow abundantly in this area. The first part of the trip was winding and hilly but then gave way to flatter terrain as we got closer to the bay. The views coming in to Bay of Los Angeles were breathtaking. This place is gorgeous! It was a little difficult to find our way INTO town as there was a new road being put in. The locals were mixing their own cement across the street and then loading it into the bucket of the front end loader! Mike gets the biggest chuckle out of the way things get done here.
This is a very small town of about 500. Electricity is provided by a generator that is only turned on for a short time each day! So if you need to take care of business, you need to really schedule it! If
the locals can afford it, they have their own generator. Electricity is supposed to be available next year. This little gem of a town is very quaint.
We are staying at the Daggett campground right here on the water for $10 a night. We discovered that just down the way you can stay for $2 a night , no facilities but there is sewer at each site! Also, you can rent a lot here for about $1000 a year! You would not believe what some of these folks have done at their lot. One couple we met from California has a ten year lease and are coming up on the end of the lease. They have been paying $690 per YEAR!. They have built a little home here that is totally powered by solar energy and gas. Water is pumped in for $70 for 2,000 gallons ! Others have built little palapa roofs over their Rvs and leave it here year around right on the beach. Another home down the beach is for sale for $150,000! Very nice too. However, we learned that owners do NOT own the land so it is a bit risky. Where can you get
a beach home at $1000 a year? It surely is tempting…..
We had fresh shrimp for dinner tonite w/ the Brits. It was soooooooooo good. A pound of very large shrimp goes for about $16. Not bad at all but a little high I think. But they know that they can get it.
We really like it here a lot. We went for a great walk on the beach which is quite rocky. The views are just fantastic. We both agree that this is one of the prettiest places we have ever been. It will be unfortunate if the big condo developers come in and ruin it. I understand now why Rvers love the Baja and why they beg people not to tell anyone about it!
Tomorrow I will go into the town again and take more pictures of the local stores and little shops.
I did go out shelling after the tide came in and was able to find ONE sand dollar but the sand dollars here are of a different sort. This one is much heavier and not as round. I also found a different looking Star Fish or what looks like a Star
Fish. At first I thought it was dead when I picked it up. Then it started oozing some slimy stuff and then I knew it was alive!!
Most of the Rvers here are from Canada. All are very friendly and nice. They gather each afternoon around four for happy hour and share their Baja stories and adventures.
Mike and I may have found our paradise!

Beautiful views
Wow, again! I would love to have a house like that! What a view. I would just live there year round since you would have breezes off the water, right? I loved the dolphins. That is the one thing I miss this year. Mike, I don't know how you are driving those roads. I feel for you, buddy!! Love, Sue
