- Facts :Tijuana is the largest city in the Mexican state of Baja California and the seat of the municipality of Tijuana; the city's current mayor is Jorge Hank Rhon of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Tijuana is the westernmost city in Latin America as well as one of the northernmost (neighboring Mexicali is slightly farther north). For this reason Tijuana is referred to as the corner of Mexico and/or Latin America. The city stands on the U.S.-Mexico border, adjacent to San Diego County, California, United States to the north.
The city's motto is "Aquí empieza la patria". The Mexican government actually translates it as "Gateway to Mexico", but the literal translation is "The homeland starts here." It is also sometimes known as the "Most visited city in the world," owing to its proximity to the world's busiest border crossing.
