I know, I know......we keep extending our time here but we ARE leaving this Friday for SURE!!! Part of the reason that we did not want to leave right away is the road construction that has been taking place through the town. It has taken about 2 weeks to tear up a road about a mile long! The equipment that they use is ancient so it is a slower process. At one point the drop off of the curve to the street out of this RV park was about 10 inches. which could cause the back of the pickup to hit the 5er and put a nice hole in it so we decided we better stay! Nice excuse, eh? NO, that part is true about the road. IT has been a dusty little village! WE watched one motorhome try to get out and it almost took a couple of signs and telephone poles with it......It was ridiculous of the driver to even try as the middle of the road was filled with the stuff they were tearing up.
We have not had any trouble keeping ourselves busy. The weather was a little cooler and a bit breezier (more breezy???)
on Saturday and Sunday. Cooler as in like 78 degrees rather than the high 80's. We suffered through it, not to worry!
The big sport fishing season is upon the village here and more and more boats are dotting the shorelines. One guy got a Marlin but I guess you are not supposed to keep them but rather throw them back. Some other guys were fishing from the shoreline the other night and caught the ugliest fish I ever saw. A local mexicano told us that it was a frog fish. The guys that caught it said that it did croak!!! They also caught a couple of yellow tail that are supposed to be good eating. Another couple of guys that we had met earlier along the way down the Baja and ended up here too have gone fishing everyday and caught some Sierras. They shared some with us and they were pretty good . A very "meaty" fish. I am not a big fan of fish, but we marinated it and then grilled it.
This past Sunday there was an Art Festival in the nearby village of Buena Vista. I was hoping to see more of the
local artisans but there were a lot of gringo artists peddling their art as well. I would rather support the local economy so I only bought from the natives! Most of the stuff was the usual jewelry, blankets and pottery.
Tonite we had dinner at a little restaurant up the street from the main drag. One could easily miss it if one didn't look carefully! The front is the restaurant and the back part of the "building" is the home of the restaurant owner. The food was excellent and very nicely presented. The owner was so pleased that I spoke Spanish and he treated us like royalty.
We decided to have a "super" burrito and split it because the waiter/owner laughed and said that it was HUGE. And it was. We each got a side of frijoles and a condiment plate w/ red and green chips, 3 different salsas, cabbage, green chiles and marinated red onions. We also had one beer each. Total bill was $10!!! The food was superb and the service likewise! I told the owner that I would like to personally thank the cook, his wife. She was thrilled to be so complimented. What nice folks.
So, we wind down now and head to the good old U.S. of A. Here are some photos of the art fair....

How are you ever going to be happy back on the farm???????
After the fabulous time you've had these last months? Isn't it going to be difficult living "normally" again? I have so enjoyed reading of your adventures and looking at your pics....you've done a fantastic job of sharing your time with friends. It's obvious, since you're heading home tomorrow, that once again we're not going to meet. Too bad, it's really gorgeous here in Orange County, Ca. Maybe one of these years?????????? Have a safe trip home......Nita
