Day 93 - Otter Falls Cutofff

With the dogs all buckled in their seatbelts and a day full of bright clear sunshine we headed out. The temperature was a little chilly (41 degrees) but we are getting used to it being cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon. The last few days there has been a 30 - 40 degree difference between early morning and later afternoon temps so knowing how to dress is interesting. The beginning of today's drive was no different than yesterday, slow and bumpy. I took some pictures of the frost heaves so you can see why we would go no faster than 35 mph during these stretches. Given the first 75 miles of the day we were not sure we could make the planned 200 miles today, but all of a sudden the road changed. They became straighter and flat with very few frost heaves. We did make our goal of Otter Falls Cutoff which was about a 216 mile drive. Along the way the sights were again spectacular. We were just moving on down the road and out pops a black bear. Since there was no traffic we slowed down and stopped to check him/her out. As you can see from the pictures, the bear was as curious as we were. To our surprise the dogs did not bark and thus the bear came pretty close to the truck. It's just simply amazing to these bears up close. The next great scenery came at Kluane Lake. The water was so calm almost the entire time we followed the lake. With the sun out brightly I was able to take some great shots of the lake and the mountain reflections. We did notice the fireweed was starting to bloom only on the tops, which is a sign summer is over. It's hard to believe, as of today, we have been on the road three months. Guess time does fly when you are having fun... Now if we can just survive the gas prices in Canada all will be well. LOL
