Forever Friends
Aging beautifully just like a fine wine! A bit of backtracking to start this week’s entry. After the busy week of hockey school, when Benjamin and I really missed seeing Owen and Dad, we were glad to hang out on Saturday morning after the hockey game. In the afternoon while the boys relaxed I attended the wedding ceremony of a friend from high school, Glenda Gates. It was a beautiful and unique wedding with the groom, Danny Skene, and his groomsmen coming in to the Hockey Night in Canada theme song and the wedding party walking out to bagpipes playing. I loved it and wish the happy couple well. The boys and Ron and I attended the reception at the Sheraton and it was great to see several of my longtime friends from high school. Looking just as good, if not better, than we did back in the old days!!
On Sunday, we left Saskatoon to take Owen to Torch Trail Bible Camp. He was very excited to go and settled in quickly after meeting two of his cabin mates. We toured around to see some of the attractions, and then pried him from a game of tetherball in order to say goodbye. I think it was
Owen's camp friends
Fast friends on the top bunk of course. harder on Mom and Dad, than it was on Owen, to say good bye for 4 whole days.
As my Mom and Herb had met us at camp to send Owen off, we headed to their house for Sunday night. On Monday my sister Genevieve and Mitch were there too and we had our annual family get together. Alix, Melissa, Shelby and Shadein came for lunch. The sun decided to shine after lunch, so we left for the lake with the boats, for a picnic and some fishing. Unfortunately that same sun wasn’t shining when we got to the lake, about 80km northwest of Garrick.
Though it was bit cool, the spot was beautiful, so Ron lit a fire and we stood around it keeping warm. Benjamin and Shadein had fun with water guns and spy games. After a big steak supper, the wind had calmed and the sun shone again, so most everyone went out for a boat ride and some fishing. Lucky Grandpa Herb caught two fish, without even trying!
On Tuesday, it was time for Grandma Camp to start for Benjamin, so Ron and I said good bye and drove back to Saskatoon. We
The pool at camp
Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for the fun time at camp enjoyed the interruption free conversation and the two days to run around and do last minute arrangements for the trip-- travel insurance, toiletries we love, a movie night(that was just for us!) and cleaning out Roger and Marie’s garage. Thanks for the storage, enjoy the newfound space!
On Thursday, I left Ron in Saskatoon to prepare for his upcoming year of teaching, while I went to pick up Owen at camp. On the way through Prince Albert I took an hour to go and visit my Grandma Dore at St.Joseph’s. I will always treasure that quiet time with her, as sadly she passed away in her sleep the following day. I feel so lucky to have known such a remarkable lady and be a part of her very loving, big family.
At 5:00 I arrived at Grandma’s and was happy to see my little Benjamin. He had been very busy at Grandma Camp, working in the garden, playing ball and going to the Herbie’s shop. He loved getting a ride in the Herbie Love Bug with Grandpa.
At 5:30 we got to Torch Trail and saw Owen’s smiling face! He was looking happy though a bit tired
Hanging out by the fire
Melissa, Shelby and Alix warming before the boat ride. and a bit dirty, as he decided to wear the same clothes for the whole four days. At least he saved me from doing loads of laundry! Owen’s favorite part of camp was the pelletry, the archery and the horse back riding. He tried skate boarding but said that it’s harder than it looks. He had lots to tell us and show us, and after a BBQ we went back to Grandma’s house.
Owen, Benjamin and I stayed at Grandma and Grandpa’s until Sunday. Uncle Alix came to visit on Friday for a bit, as he was working nights and we won’t see him for a while. Owen had fun shelling peas, he loves this, and picking raspberries. The boys were happy to see each other too, and played in the old cars and at the park.
On Saturday it was time to wash and park our van as we had bought a storage tent to keep it in while we are gone. Ron had set this up the weekend before with Herb and Mitch. With our summer gear inside and the bikes locked on the back we parked the Safari and said our good byes. We will
Sock Twins
As we were all cold, Alix lent out any socks he could find in his truck. miss our own vehicle but look forward to the bus rides where we can meet interesting people and practice our Spanish.
Sunday we traveled to Saskatoon with Grandma and Grandpa, thank you for taking us back to Ron, who was very ready to see his boys after the week. Once again Nana and Papa’s house is full of action and lots of noise. One more week and then peace can reign again!
