Ready for a tough day of walking...or not
As usual, we were up fairly early for tourism activities - our biking schedule is not really in line with the rest of the world. We started the day off with some breakfast in our tiny residence room, scoped out the laundry facilities for later, taped up the blisters on Eric's feet, and headed to the bus stop. We took the bus to just outside of Old Quebec City, and walked the rest of the way in. There were some steep hills on that walk, but overall it was still enjoyable. Just before entering the fortifying walls of the old city, we stopped at a little cafe for some more breakfast - it was about 10 am by this point.

On our way in to the city we attempted to take a picture, and promptly realized that we left the memory card for the camera back at the residence room where we were using it to transfer pictures to the computer for the blog. This meant that for the entire day we were using the iphone for photos - the resolution is actually better, but as a camera it is far less customizable: no timer, no zoom - so for

one thing, you won't see many pictures of the two of us together.

We spent the morning walking around the streets, and taking in the sights, and listening to the music - there is a music festival going on and there were lots of live bands playing all over the city. Actually, had we been a few days later, we could have seen the Metallica concert, but alas we must push on. While exploring, we checked out the nice old church, and got some great views of the St-Lawrence as well as rural Quebec in the distance. We also scoped out where we will take the ferry to the south side of the river tomorrow morning. By late morning, Eric's feet were pretty unhappy about the whole flip-flops situation, so we stopped off to buy him some crocs - well worth their cost.

Therese really wanted to get some crepes, so we went to a crepe restaurant for lunch. We considered ordering the Wild Boar, but it was a bit pricy, so we stuck to ham and asparagus - along with mixed berry and ice cream for desert. After lunch we walked a bit more, stopped at a

drug store to get a few things, most importantly a single-serving laundry detergent for later, and also stopped at a bakery to get a croissant. Supposedly this place had the best croissants in Quebec in 2010, and sure enough it was fantastic. They also made some good Gelato.

Later we walked along the fortifying walls of the old city, and got some more great views. Then we went for a tour of The Citadel - this old castle was built to defend the English from an attack by the French, and later fortified in case of an attack by Americans. The tour we took was the English version: though Eric's French is getting better little by little, its not even close to ready for a French tour. The tour was really great, and we learned a lot, though it was mostly outside, and by that point in the afternoon the sun was quite hot.

When it was over we headed back to the residences to do our laundry, make our dinner, and get ready for tomorrow. After today there are no major cities we plan to stop at before Fredericton. While our route is not fully decided, we

will probably be taking 5 days to get there, and depending on how far we feel like going each day, we may be camping instead of staying in motels. This means there may not be internet, so for all of you loyal readers, we may not update very frequently over the next stretch. Rest assured, there is more coming when we are able. If you "register" for our blog, you will get an email whenever we post a new entry.

That's all for now - have a good evening everyone!

tiring day
As always it is great to read your blogs and see your pictures. I am glad Quebec was fun to spend a day in. I love reading about ideas for when I get there. All is good here; I met the cat sitter and she is very nice; Alfie was friendly so that is a good sign. We have been having wonderful weather;not too hot or humid, lots of nice breeze, and always nice enough for breakfast on the deck. Tomorrow the blinds guy is coming to measure the window. I have been using the treadmill EVERY day now for 4 whole days in a row, and it feels great. I have also cut out pop and chips and fries and have lost about 4 pounds over the last 2-3 weeks. I don't feel like I am dieting because I eat anything else I want, but I am tending towards eating healthier, Sorry my comments are so scattered, just felt like filling you in with bits of news. Have a great day tomorrow, love MOM
