My House in the Woods
A very good neighbour will keep my house safe. The Spanish lessons are going well, muchos gracias, at the Spanish Centre on Hayden St. just south of Bloor andYonge.
Working at a Toronto District School Board school since Feb 1 is paying handsomely!!
The same backpack that went to India is ready and packed.
Putting up the tent under five mintes is the immediate challenge.
Medical insurance has been procured.
My blood has been infused with all manner of serum to ward off yellow fever, thyphoid, hepatitis A&B, cholera and polio.
Malaria and diahrrea are on the lets-hope-it-does-not-find-me-list.
A guard for my precious house in the woods is in place; not a scary snowman.
Boots and weather proof jacket have been worn and are comfy. Have not yet worn the pants ... hope they will beOK and not used too often. Who amI kidding? in the rainforest I will definitely be sopping and my hair will curl uncontrollably. Went to the Science Centre and did a five minute walkthru. And that is only a tiny rainforest!
A small fortune has been spent on maps, laptop, windup radio and flashlight, and a recording device that transposes to script.
A GSP system has been suggested just in case a desperado develops an immense liking for me and hides me in his lair.
The existance of the tour leaders has been confirmed by two other sources.
Good thing; because I have paid my $12,500 for the 40 week trip.
Am prepard for all other incidentals; non of which will include white water rafting, kayaking or wire flying!! and no bunjee jumping of the Catallino(sic) Bridge on Vancouver Island.
Have a one way flight to Anchorage, Alaska and a bus ticket out from Tok to Beaver Creek, to satisfy the U.S. Customs and Homeland Security Group, ministry, league....who knows what they are.
The new passport has been issued and paid for ... $85 ... since the previous one was caught in the laundry and was no longer servicable.
Scorpions, venemous snakes and spiders, earthquakes, guerrillas, mud slides, washouts, breakdowns, political upheavels, student strikes, kidnappings and/or violent attacks not with standing, I am anxious to get going.
Am leaving on April 30, 2007from Toronto Airport with Delta Airlines and returning sometime after March 2008 probably by Amtrac from Miami, Florida.
The trip from Brazil to Miami is still up in the air, no pun intended. Depends on wether or not I meet some rich Argentinian gaucho on an Arabian stallion and what he has to offer in the way of distraction. Definitely looking for younger meat to satisfy the cougar in me.... no lame lioness here!!
Paid alll outstanding bills, even Hydro One which I detest with a passion.
Am embarking with a clear mind and equally cleared bankstatement!
I'M READY!!! READY!!! READY!!! READY!!!
and you will notice I have figured out how to add photos.... finally ! This will make for much better reading and I promise only a few, 2-3 per entry.
Only one tiny fly in the ointment.
I read in the travel advisory, distributed by the Health Unit in my city, that individuals with high blood pressure should not travel above 10,000ft. My doctor, of too many years to mention, has been trying to convince me that the numbers he reads when giving me an absolutely perfect annual check, up are too high. So, faced with the prospect of exploding veins and having to get off the truck at 10,000, because many sites to be visited are above 14,000ft, which is a much smaller number in metres( maybe I should read metres) I have succumbed and am injesting daily a little white pill. The greatest distress is that I can no longer say that I am in perfest heatlth! I was depressed for only a few days. Have taken 13 of the little evils. At least I don't have to get off the truck at 10,000ft.
