Hello from Canada!
Oh my goodness it's sooooo cold here but at the same time it's so beautiful, there's snow and everything. Well we arrived into Toronto on friday after a short and smoothe flight, well smoothe by our standards anyway. We were then greeted by some very friendly faces, those from the Tancock family will know them as the relatives from Canada. The last time I saw Kim I must have only been a teenager and now seeing her with her family is amazing, even Nathan, Kim's cousin which I think makes him one of mine was there to greet us too which was really nice, along with Kim's children Rebecca and Ryan. Once Ryan had stopped crying after the shock of seeing us strangers we headed back to Kim and Mike's to set up base. On our first night we were made welcome with some traditional Canadian home cooking.... Not! (Kim and Mike's words not mine) of meat balls and rice.
The first full day in Canada we headed downtown with guide Nathan to check out the CN Tower which is the worlds tallest building. Believe us it is REALLY high and to top it off they
even have a glass floor right at the top which you can stand on and see all the way down. Gary went on it but I was a little freaked out to say the least and then seeing little kids jumping on it really made me feel sick. We then went across the street to the Rogers Centre, formerly known as the Skydome, to have a look around but as they were setting up for a Monster Trucks event we only got a quick peek of the stadium from inside the Hard Rock cafe at the top of the stadium.
From there we went downtown some more and took in the St Lawrence market which has all types of food including the Canadian favourite, Perogies. After taste testing a lot of the food they had on offer we went on to a local Sushi bar where I accidently ate a whole ball of Wasabi which for those of you who know what it is can imagine how much it made my nose sting and set me off crying.
We then went to the Eaton Centre which is a huge mall in town but the only shopping I did
was for some lip balm as the cold weather has made it a necessity to carry some around with us at all times. After popping to the Apple store which is becoming a bit of a habit as it comes in handy when wanting to check emails and check up on the British news (by the way what is going on with Celebrity Big Brother?). We then headed back to the house for an evening of chips, dips and a movie (which I still don't get).
So today we headed off for Niagra Falls, which was amazing and again very cold. So cold even that the spray from the falls turns straight to ice when it lands on anything, Gary certainly noticed this with his camera. We even got a chance to go down behind the falls where we got some really great pictures. The icicles everywhere make everything look so spectacular and there were even icicles on the trees surrounding the falls and to be honest wherever the spray had landed. The street just up from the Falls was really cool as there were lots of amusements and we can honestly say we've never seen so many haunted
houses before on one street. Once we'd gone as far as we could without turning to ice from the spray we decided to make our way back to Oakville which is where Kim and her family live but before we got home we stopped off for a bite to eat at a Canadian/American restaurant for some burgers and ribs, guess who had what, I bet you can't?
Well now we're back at the house for the evening and tomorrow we head into Toronto again for our last day in Canada and we will be staying in a hostel for our last night. Then on Tuesday we head off to Las Vegas where for those of you that might know what I mean, I will definitely be Taking care of business. So until then.... Viva Las Vegas.
Next blog should be coming to you near the end of the week before we head off to California.
Bye for now
