Dear All Hello again from London. I have just arrived back from a family visit to Ontario, Canada. I thought I’d write a travel blog entry on a wonderful three-day trip I took from my family’s country farmstead not far from Toronto, up north and west towards the stunning shores of Lake Huron. It was a lovely little trip, and seemed also to be a positive test-case for potential future short, t... Read Full Entry

Old memories
We lived 12 years in Toronto before moving out to Calgary in the west. Your blog brings back the memories when we used to drive often to Georgian Bay, Owen Sound, Lake Muskoka and whole northern circuit during the weekends. Your blog Brings back memories of my yesteryears in Toronto when I practically grew up in the lovely city. Memories could be old, but they are gold! Thanks Alex!

Canada
Oh wow, I didn't realise you had lived in Toronto and that I was travelling your old stomping grounds. A really beautiful area - I wished I was able to get up the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory, but there was no public transport there. Ah well, I thoroughly enjoyed what I did see. Thanks for your blogs on Peru by the way, they have provided me with good inspiration on my own trip there this summer, which I am currently planning. I'm now following your blog, and look forward to hopefully reading your blogs on Africa soon :D

Lake Huron!.... a Great Lake.
Such a beautiful part of the world with friendly and nice people to match. That is great he loaned you a bicycle. I love places with a rich past and a few potential ghost. Makes a great story if nothing else. Thank you for telling us all the wonderful people you met along the way and the sage bear avoiding advice. How amazing to have the waterfalls to yourself. Serenity. it was sad hearing that Jerry is leaving the BnB but I'm happy for his next chapter if he is excited. I'm glad your paths crossed. MJ

A Great Great Lake!
Thanks MJ :) Indeed, I met such lovely people on this short journey. It gave me a very good impression of Canada as a whole, which I hope to be able to explore more of at some point soon. Jerry was very happy and excited to be moving onto the next chapter, it seems the BnB business is quite an intense one...!

A little chilly to be visiting our fair land! But it’s still beauty, eh? I got a kick out of how concerned you were over the bears. I’ve had many encounters over the years and bears are highly overrated. Most are terrified of us and run before you see them. Summers are so awesome, you should consider extending the mini breaks and come back then. In the meantime, very exciting you’ll be going to South America, I look forward to the blogs!

Bears and Canada
Thanks Andrea! Good to hear bears don't seem that big a deal - I do plan on more trips to Canada at some point soon, so I'm sure I'll need to get used to walking in bear country! It was a first for me though, we don't have big predators any more in the UK. Definitely thinking about extending the mini breaks in North America, spring time is good for me though as the summer is the time for my big, long trip! I loved Canada, I loved the people, I look forward to being able to explore more :D

We were close!
I was surprised to see your blog about Ontario - I was also in Ontario recently, for a quick visit with my brother and sister in law, to celebrate my brother's 60th birthday (it was a surprise visit, and boy was he surprised!). We flew in and out of Toronto, and drove down to the Niagara Region where they live (not too far from Niagara Falls). We saw ice on Lake Erie (looks similar to your photos of Lake Huron). Good for you for all that hiking/walking, especially this early in the season with snow and ice still around.

Ontario
Oh wow, we were close indeed! It would be nice to meet if our travel paths cross again at some point. What a lovely surprise for your brother, he must have been really thrilled :D I hope to be able to explore more of Canada in the not-too-distant future - your country and people left a really positive impression on me :D
