Okay, so I know I am pretty behind in updating this blog regarding my second week in Ithaca, but before I catch up on that I want to "blog" about yesterday and today. Yesterday I woke up at 5 am to catch a 7am flight to Toronto. Got in at noon and went home to see family and re-pack for two months at Long Point Bird Observatory. Drove to Guelph to meet up with Drew, who was my ride to Long Point. Played a game of dreidel with Drew-made applesauce and Amish-made donuts. After we figured out that we had a dreidle "loaded" towards the letter "nun" we just started eating the food and stopped trying to spin the dreidel on to any other letter. Then we did errands and stopped by to visit my former professor, and current "grandfather", Jack, and his wolf, Denver. Jack took some nice pictures of Drew and me with Denver, which I hope to receive very soon!
At Drew's place I took a long, luxurious bath before a gourmet surprise dinner. Drew made matah balls in a ginger-based soup followed by an arugula-spinach-cashew salad with Paul Newman(!) dressing. Then came the main course from

Me and a matzah ballway out of left field: Vegetarian lasagna made with matzah balls! His first try and all 18 of his matzah balls came out perfectly! Fell asleep walking to a couch and still have no memory of actually making it to bed (but somehow I did!).
This morning slept in a bit, had delicious Drew-made breakfast, and then finished packing for Long Point. At 11:30 we stopped by the "flights" for a short visit with the bird I handle, a Broad-winged Hawk named Whistler. Then it was on to Long Point!
Arrived in Port Rowan around 3:30pm, stopped at a great ice cream parlour, and then continued to the field station, which is a large house outside of Port Rowan near the beach and at the start of the peninsula. After dumping my belongings in my room Drew and I went to the Beach. I went in Lake Erie for the first time, though only up to my shins. The area is full of tree swallows and other birds, and though different from Ithaca, very beautiful. I am looking forward to discovering the nature around Long Point. Tomorrow I'm to be ready to set-up insect traps for 6:30am, so

The failed matzo ball chef!
Hi there! Well I have never heard of a matzo ball lasagna--I can't even imagine it and where did Drew get matzo flour??? Also, what was that fruit or vegetable you had for breakfast--curious as I never heard of it. You all looked lovely-including Whistler. Thanks for such an interesting and fun entry. Love, Mama
