Day 8: Today dawned sunny and beautiful so we decided to take a ride about 30 miles away to Peggy's Cove. But...then we noticed we'd be going right by Fairview Cemetery, where many of the Titanic graves are so... we decided to go there first. Going in and out of the city we were crossing toll bridges at $1 per crossing. We didn't have a dollar coin this time, but guess what when we threw a $2 coin in the basket, it liked it just fine ;-) So out to the cemetery. It is just beautiful. The section with the Titanic graves has the headstones laid out in the shape of the bow of a ship. It's very sad to see so many headstones with exactly the same death dates, April 15, 1912. There was a total loss of lives of almost 1500 people. There are plaques with information and downtown there is a Titanic Museum which we
will visit tomorrow. There are, even today, a number of people they have not identified. After leaving Fairview, we headed south on a winding, two lane road to Peggy's Cove. About halfway there we encountered a back up and found there had been an accident. Then we saw emergency vehicles coming down the road. our land continued to slowly move and we could see police on the scene. once again, hope no one was hurt. Peggy's Cove is a beautiful windswept village on the Atlantic, with 34 full time families who make their living from tourists and cod fishing and lobster trapping. There is a lighthouse, a few restaurants and many art galleries and souvenir shops. Peggy's Cove got its name when a young girl named Peggy was traveling to Halifax to meet her fiancé. The ship she was on, floundered on the rocks. She was rescued and stayed there. People would say they were going to
visit, "Peggy at the Cove". We had lunch of lobster roll and fish chowder (what else ;-) and headed back into Halifax as we had tickets to "That'll Be the Day", old time Rock 'n Roll at the Victoria Theatre on Fountain Street for 7:30pm tonight. We are excited.
When we got back to the room, we decide that we better look up the address of this theatre as our "Rhonda" couldn't find it and neither could WAZE. Thinking back, we should have known there was something wrong. When Eli, our driver from the Westin, took us to the airport to get the rental car, we mentioned we were going to the Victoria Theatre and he said, he'd lived in Halifax for 52 years and never heard of it. So, we spent an hour on the internet trying to figure out exactly where this theatre is. Every time we would be directed to the Victoria Theatre in Halifax, United Kingdom. Ugh...frustraaaaating! Well, the joke was on us! Jean bought tickets to the Victoria Theatre in Halifax, ENGLAND
for tonight! We have been laughing about it all afternoon. Good thing we didn't notice it earlier, we might have been tempted to jump on a plane and fly across the pond, LOL Tomorrow: Our last day in Halifax and the Titanic Museum
