Memorial
lots of ships, boats and a golf course right across It's been awhile since I filled you in on our travels so will try to catch up a bit here. From Beddeck we travelled down the coast to Halifax (where we only stopped for fuel and groceries) then on to a campground at Peggy's Cove. Its the rocky shore line worn smooth by the waves and the lighthouse that has been there and working since 1868, that make this such a polular place. It is very unique and I am glad we went to see it. Also it is famous because of the Swiss airline that went down off the coast and over 200 people died there is a memorial to these people at the cove. So before I go any further I have to tell you that Nova Scotians are divided, on the south shore, into 2 groups in the east they are the herring chocker's (because of the herring fishing) and in the west they are the blue noser's because of the Blue Nose Schooner ( and in case some of you don't know this it is the sailing ship on our dime). So from Peggy's cove we went to a campground just outside the town of Bridgewater, I

the houses are so colourful loved this town and the area I think even more than Beddeck. Its a very pretty place right onthe bay where the LaHave River comes in. From here we went to Lunnenberg, this is the home of the Blue Nose and Chuck's favorite place. In fact if he had been born in those days he would have been a ship builder. The ship is famous and on our dime, because in those days, we are talking 1922, she was the fastest sailing ship in Canada and the US. ( you had to go fishing with a vessel for 1 season before you could enter it in a race) We spent the whole day at the Fisheries Museum and looking at the rebuilt Blue Nose II as she was being launched on the Sat. The Blue Nose II is 47 years old. I am sure Chuck could have spent another day there, and I offered but we moved on the next day to tour Mahone Bay. A quiet little place that goes crazy on the second last weekend in Sept. with their scarecrow festival. This was a hoot and believe me they go all out and the scarecrows are everywhere and

you would think these clours would be awful but they suit the place could look like anyone. They were up in the trees, on the sidewalks, around all the buildings and lamp posts and in every yard and porch. They also have the "Three Churches" which is exactly as suggested 3 different denomination churches side by side. We loved our time here and the trees are just starting their fall colours, and nothing is quite the same colour as a maple turning red. I can't believe the weather it has been so beautiful. We did have to wait an extra day in Peggy's Cove as the fog had rolled in the first day but after that nothing but sunshine. Now off to the Northshore of Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundy and finish at the bottom of New Brunswick before heading south into the States.
