The Olympics have come and gone amidst much positive and negative ranting. I'm proud to say that I have lived in a city during both a Summer and a Winter Olympic games (Sydney 2000 and now Vancouver 2010). All in all, I had a positive report for the 2010 games. There were a lot of cultural side-events - music gigs, theater, street art and performers that made it so much more accessibly to partake in the frivolity for those (like us) who are not huge on sport. But even so, we enjoyed our moments when Australia won their first gold, or Canada won their first gold on home soil, and then claimed the much coveted men's hockey gold. The city came alive like we'd never seen it, but as quickly as it came it disappeared. It's a shame that the energy didn't hang around a little longer, because the 2010 Games breathed a pulse of life into this city that really made it truly The Place To Be.
