We are now on Vancouver Island just starting out after setting up our bikes at SV Motorcycle World Vancouver. 30kms or so to the ferry at Tsawassen, a bit of a wait then a pleasant 2 hour ferry trip to Nanaimo.Tomorrow we start the last section of the TCAT (unfinished business) & then an 800km loop around the Island.

Day 1:

Leaving Nanaimo at 8.30am after a Subway Breakfast we were onto forestry roads/tracks within 20 minutes. Great scenery, great roads & a problem free first day. Climbing to 600m approx we had changing temperatures, on & off drizzle but a good days ride. Stopped for lunch at Port Alberni where had a great lunch overlooking the Marina.

Then we rode another 100kms to Courtenay for a well earned rest. A few minor bike adjustments then a great meal in a top restaurant ended our first day.

Day 2:

After a Tim Horton's breakfast we headed out on more forestry roads for around 200kms (seeing 11 Deer on the road on the journey) before finding our route blocked by a huge washout at a bridge. Ignoring Ian's assurance we could get the bikes down a steep bank to the river & then ride across, we opted for discretion being the better part of valour & retraced our steps to eventually arrive at the one horse town of Woss. Unfortunately even the horse had left town so after a trip around the spectacular lake & few beers on the patio being entertained by Keith a local forestry worker we had an excellent Japanese meal in the Korean owned restaurant?? A great finish to the first 2 days.
