On our way back to Wuhan

As the vacation draws to a close for the family and I we feel pretty happy. We spent the majority of our time in Victoria. Daily trips of walking around the downtown area gave us lots of exercise and exposure to the beautiful weather and environment. I was happy to see great clear blue skies almost every day in Victoria, quite a change from the typical overcast and polluted air of Wuhan. Every weekday morning we took Meili to one of the local community centres for meeting with other young families for kids to socialize and play. On a near daily basis we would take Meili to one of 4 local playgrounds where Meili played in the fountains and slides.

The afternoons we spent going to parks in the city and outside and doing many of the festivals in the city including the Canada day, Symphony Splash, the Art Walk, Buskers festival, centenial of WW1 at Fort Rodd Hill barracks and the Dragon boat festival. We had frequent trips to the local beaches and parks including Willow beach, Goldstream Park, and Bouchard Gardens. Evenings included walks out to perennial favourites like the chinatown night market and eating at local restaurant favourites.

Our friends from Edmonton, Fraiser and Jason visited with their beautiful 5 month old baby boy in mid July. Near the end of the month we got to visit our friend and my colleague Kirby in Vancouver for a few days. His family's hospitality was much appreciated and he gave us a tour of the local parks and malls in Vancouver, North Van, Surrey, and Richmond. As his wife Christina was at work in the US, Kirby had enough free time to show us many attractions.

Other to do's included getting Meili's vaccinations and health checks. Finances and whatnot were attended to as the parents sold one of their houses and Helen and I prepared for immigrating. As the vacation draws to a close we hope to reunite with another friend from Wuhan to reconnect. We also will want to do a little more tourist stuff. All in all Helen and I are missing Wuhan though and we will be glad to come back to China.
