OMG just had the biggest breakfast ever. It was an all you can eat buffet so I did just that! Don't think I will be eating again today.
I did eat again! We had coffee and cake at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise but firstly we took the open chair to the top of the Lake Louise Summit. We got some great pics of the Rockies but we both felt a bit deflated. All the trails at the top were closed due to snow and where they had cleared the snow so you could get to the viewing platform the ground was all muddy. Think we were both missing Grizzly Bear Ranch which has been the highlight of the trip for both of us. Ian reckons we've been spoilt by the places we have been to so far. Each destination has a lot to live up to and so far they all have but not blown away by Lake Louise.
When we came back down we drove to the actual lake of Lake Louise which is 9km from the village. We knew it was still frozen as we could see it from the summit but
when we got there we could see that it had melted in places and the colour of the water was amazing. One of the locals told us that it melts around the edges and then the middle sinks so one day it still looks frozen and the next day it's a lake. The other lake I wanted to see was Moraine Lake but the road to it is closed due to an avalanche. We pass this way again on the drive down to Banff in two days so we are going to call in, see if the road is open and see if Lake Louise has melted.
I think the Fairmont Chateau is a bit of an eyesore, looking like a plastic Barbie hotel but we went in, had a look round, discovered Chelsea had won the Champions League and stopped for coffee and cake. I would not want to be here in peak season. There was plenty of people around today so it must be swarming with coach loads of tourists in the summer months. Bit bizarre when we were at the lake, a couple standing next to us had been the other two people on
our bear watching trip in Tofino all those months ago (2 weeks but feels like forever ago). They have already been to Jasper and go home in two days.
I haven't really been missing G and B until today and I gave in and messaged Tracy through Facebook to ask were they ok. I told her to lie if she needed to! But she messaged me back saying they are doing fine and she loves them cos they are a pair of clowns. They love her too especially when she puts a Scouse accent on for them. She posted two pictures on Facebook and they look really well but I think Benson will be on a diet when he gets home. That makes two of us!
Pics still won't upload. Off to Jasper tomorrow travelling along the Icefield Parkway.
