A shot of Sylvan Lake
A shot of the Lake where I was staying Hello!!!
Well you might guess that I am not actually in Sylvan Lake and Camrose now so why the long delay? Well I was doing my thing and staying with relatives and while I did have a computer there, I was catching up on the blogs I hadn't done. So when I had done that I had done several blogs and wanted a break. By the time I left it was the end of the trip and I had other things to do like sleep, last minute shopping and drinking and then making sure I got my plane home ok so the blogs took a back seat. I then get home and had catching up to do and then by the time I was ready to write the blogs, I couldn't load the pictures so thought what good is the blog without pics but now I have finally decided to do the blogs, even if it means without pics!
So now I have to remember it all!!!
Ok, well I left Banff on the greyhound again going to Calgary. I wasn't totally alone, a girl I knew at the hostel was also on the same bus so chatted
Elk again!
A big elk....again. to her on the way and then said goodbye at Calgary which was her stop and my connection point. They station was ok, though I kept getting approached by a some drunk/weird woman who was asking why we wasn't getting on the bus yet, like I knew! Anyway I got the bus ok and through dozing finally got to Red Deer which was my stop. It was pretty busy there for a small station but through the crowd I saw my cousin and made me way across to meet her and head back to her and her husbands place.
It was a really cool house, cute little dog called Scout which I enjoyed stroking and playing with. I did a few things with the family, like went to see one of my cousins hockey games which was pretty cool, we stopped at an antique store and I met a strange canadian that owned the store who claimed to have spent time in the UK, boasting he knew more about english history then most english people. Also said I shouldn't vote for 'damn socialists', which may be true but I didn't really ask for his opinion or even venture the
Elk!
A big elk. topic of politics.
The hockey game I saw was for teen years and then I later saw one that was the kids league. Most of the time I was catching up on blogs and enjoying home hospitality but I did get to out with my cousins husband and seeing the quarry he owns and drive cross country which was enjoyable and informative. While there I saw the elk that he has at the quarry, took some pics, was a bit of a challange to the dominate male there but luckily he didn't charge me. Later that day I ate elk for the first time and it was delicious!!! Really lean and tasty, I'd eat it again for sure.
My cousin got a call from her brother and his wife saying they'd like me to come up and stay with them so I did so.
They lived up at a place called Camrose not far from Edmonton. They had a great house also and once again I was enjoying home comforts. I did feel a bit bad coz I was eating and sleeping for free but both cousins assured me it was fine, and I was grateful not to be
in a hostel for a change.
They took me out for fish and chips one night as I said it was something I missed from home, unfortunately the resturant we went to while good didn't live up to my high standards of fish and chips lol. The fish and chips wasn't bad par se but was small in its portions and one of them looked like it was a little man that had been cut in half and fried. Luckily my relatives didn't take offence and found it funny that I was critiquing fish.
They also had a couple of dogs and deer that kept coming in the yard which was cool. I explored the town of Camrose there and did a few things such as actually enjoying a coffee for the first time, a timothy hougtons 'Double Double', no idea what the double was but it tasted nice! I learned that there are rednecks in canada, not just america and that one of my young cousins happily informed of me of redneck customs and ways of life up there, such as having big supped up trucks, hunting and general craziness. I liked it though, helped me get a
Front on elk
He's facing me now... real feel for the people and what its like to live there.
I went to the worlds largest shopping centre in Edmonton with my cousins wifes niece and did a bungee jump from the roof - over 100ft, that was an expeirence! Now there are no pics of this amazing feat as even though I brought my camera, the person I came with said not to bother as they bungee people would take one, well there camera was offline that day so no pic!!! Gutted. Anyway a short description of what happened, I was the only one doing a head first bungee where they tie it from your ankles so went head first of the top of this huge crane over the water park they had there. You go off and no sound can come out of your mouth, then you actually hear a 'Voom' and pick up speed, you think your going to die. The suddenly your up again and then going down again for a good while. I had to grab a rope at the bottom they send to you and crawl my way along it until a guy at the side yanks you back to terra
The rest of the herd
The ones without big horns. firma. It was an expeirence I will tell you that, may do a body one next time though coz its something different.
I also went to Edmonton again the next day, saw the legislative buildings from the outside and then went to a Rodeo, it was a big one, the championship final of a big competition so saw horse racing and horse bucking and bull riding and all that jazz. It was very entertaining though ended suddenly I thought. I also learned cowboys drove dodges.
I then flew out of Edmonton to Toronto at 1am, the airport was dead but at least I didn't get stopped by immigration again and got a bus to my hostel in a very grey and rainy Toronto.
I was tired and crashed out.
Next and last blog - Toronto and home!!!!
