An overcast sky today, but the clouds were high and we could see the top of every mountain….just beautiful…. Snow white snow …. On the ground, along the rivers, and covering the mountain tops.
We drove along the Trans Canada Highway No 1, to Lake Louise, it was only about a 50k drive, so we arrived early. Lake Louise is frozen over, a site to see ! We took a walk along the lakes edge, a great 5k walk, along the way the path was quite wet with snow and ice.
The Fairmont Hotel was framed beautifully with the mountains and lake , we were happy to spend some time in the hotel, it is very grand. Our accomadation is also grand we are staying at the Lake Louise Inn Chalet.
On one of our walks we came across the railway line, Geoff was happy to watch a freight train pass, it had 2 engines with 129 carriages which he estimated to be 1.5ks long !
We also found a colony of Columbian ground squirrels….cheeky little fellas they were ! No bears yet! But I was told tonight that a bear had been sited behind the information centre here in Lake Louise…… we were there today…. But no bear !
