For our second day in Bermuda, Susan and I planned to see the Verdmont house museum and then explore the city of Hamilton. Verdmont is out in the country, about halfway between Hamilton and St. George. Getting there requires taking a bus. (Or renting a scooter. Visitors may not rent cars in Bermuda.) Another SeaExpress ferry took us form the Dockyard across Great Sound to Hamilton. There were rain squalls along the way, but the rain had let up by the time we docked in Hamilton. Next, we needed to find the bus terminal. The Hamilton bus terminal is next to City Hall on Church Street. It's very busy, showing the popularity of bus transport. We caught a Line 1 bus from Hamilton to St. George, along the South Highway.Following proper Bermuda bus protocol, we addressed ... read more

It seems a little strange writing a travel blog about Bermuda when I lived there for 6 and a half years, but its been included in our trip so here goes. Bermuda was always going to be visited at some point on our trip, but we were going to go in September time, nearer the end of our trip and after we´d travelled through the US. Quite a few months ago though, a friend from Bermuda, Gary, announced his wedding date in South Africa for mid November as well as his departure from Bermuda in August. So we extended our round the world trip until December (was there really any point going home to try to find work for 2 months?!) and engineered a trip on airmiles to Bermuda to coincide with his departure date. So ... read more

I wanted to post a final entry on the Bermuda trip. Pre planning Costs: Flights: $20 Used United Airlines frequent flyer miles Hotel: $75 at Newark airport (typical rooms are $250) Cruise: $500, amount saved by trading a Timeshare week Trip: Took a voluntary bump from Colorado Springs and got $800 in free United Airlines Tickets. Had perfect weather the entire cruise. It was about 72 degrees and sunny. Had a motor scooter accident and got a sprained ankle. The sprain force me to relax for the remainder of the cruise which pleased Jan immensely. Because of my bad knee, I had packed a cane and lots of Percocet, which made the remainder of the trip much better. Post Trip: Used the $800 in United Airlines Coupons to buy ticket so Spokane for Christmas. Total cost ... read more

This is my second and final blog entry, because the first access to internet on the ship cost me almost $20. I don't need internet access that much. When you read this, we are home The second day, Monday, of the cruise was at sea and a quiet day. The third day, Tuesday, the ship anchored off shore near the town of St. George. We had to take a 30 minute ferry ride to the island. We decide to rent motor scooters for the day and tour the island. Bermuda is a string of many islands with bridges connecting the inhabited islands. We were almost to the other end, when it happened!! I came around a corner and there was a car stopped in the road. I don't remember exactly what happened but the next moment, ... read more

I just returned from a cruise aboard the NCL Dawn and I had a Group on the NCL Majesty. both cruises were wonderful. The majesty hit hard seas on her way down and some of our guests were in bed riding out the seas but after a day it became calmer and the fun began. first of all NCL Freestyle was something I thought I would hate as I am use to traditional cruising. but all the dining options were great. the food good and service absolutely wonderful, exceeding expectations. The only negative out of the whole trip was our cabin service which was sub par but the steward and stewardess were very friendly but not very clean but that was our only complaint. Our group on the majesty was with JR cat Country radio with ... read more

We settled in for the six day ocean crossing. Since it was also the last ten days of the world cruise, it meant busy days and nights on the Voyager. Even though the world cruise was ending on April 30 in Ft Lauderdale we were going to do another lap. We decided last summer that we would prefer to cruise home rather than fly home and Cruise Specialists was kind enough to assign us to a coast to coast cruise. On the same day of our arrival in the US, we would transfer over to the Regent Mariner for a sixteen day cruise through the Panama Canal back to San Francisco. Since we had four different destinations for our belongings, it all had to be separated accordingly. We were leaving four bags in Florida, we were ... read more

After 5 fun filled days crossing the Atlantic, there was a buzz around the ship that we would be arriving in Bermuda a full day early. The Captain confirmed this and announced that we would be docked next to our sister ship the Mariner. Everyone was excited about the extra time and especially about the prospect of visiting the Mariner. We had spent 54 days on her in ‘01-‘02 on her inaugural circumnavigation of South America. It was not only our 1st long cruise but also our recuperation from Chuck’s triple bypass 12 weeks before on 9/21/01. So we had many fond memories! As we cruised into the main town of Hamilton; the turquoise water, the pink sand beaches and the multi colored pastel homes with manicured gardens were as impressive as we remembered. There’s a ... read more
