December 1st 2015. The passage of the Suez Canal. Situated on the west of the sinal penninsula it was inaugurated on nov 17 1869, making it possible to connect Europe with the east and thus avoiding Africa. The canal was initially 164 kms long and 53 kms wide,now a days it is 193km long and 255 km wide 24 meters deep.To be transit of the ships is organized in alternate convoys a day that get together in the area of the great lakes. The ships are preceded ad followed by tow, keeping distance from each other and proceed at around 9 knots. The trip takes 12 hours from the Mediterranean sea to the red sea.
