Hello everyone,

Our kindergarten class went on a field trip to the Dubai Aquarium. It was amazing! After about an hour on the bus, we arrived at the mall and took our picture in front of the Burj Dubai. What was funny was that other people kept asking us if they could take pictures of the kids as well. Apparently some cultures think it is good luck to put their hand on the head of blond children...I certainly have an abundance of those in my class! I would have said no...being a North American and always feeling danger lurking in every corner but the parents that were with me did not mind therefore I went with it. We made our way to the food court and settled in to eat our lunch. The mall was practically empty as everything opens around 10 am and we had arrived shortly after that. We then walked to the entrance of the Dubai Aquarium where we were greeted by our guide. He sang songs and was really great with the kids. Our program was called Penguin Parade and all the week prior, I had been talking about penguins and we had seen a National

Geographic movie about them. During the movie, there was a scene were a penguin was eaten by a seal. William exclaimed the day before the trip that he could not wait to see a seal eat a penguin. There were indeed seals there but luckily for me, no penguins were harmed much to some of the children's disappointment. There were very impressive displays of sea creatures and it was fascinating to see them up close. The tunnel was the best! The kids got to lay down on their backs to look up at the animals swimming by.
After our 2 hour tour, we went to the candy store "Candyliscious" and I bought the kids each an ice-cream cone. All in all it was a great day!

There was this cool bubble that the kids could climb into and look at the fish from inside the tank. This particular tank had a variety of poisonous ones.

The kids loved the penguins. They would run back and forth in front of the tank and the penguins would chase them.

Our guide told us to lay on our backs to look at what was swimming overhead. The kids loved looking at the sharks as they could see their teeth from below.

field trip
Hi Sherry, The field trip looks like it was great. It reminds me of a trip Kelly and Graham took their kids on last summer, and the kids were sitting in front of the aquarium where the shark (or maybe it was a killer whale...I can't remember at the moment) is swimming behind them. Kelly was taking the kids' picture while the fish was swimming right for them. In the pics that they were able to take, it clearly shows the shark (or whatever) opening its mouth to take a bite of the kids' heads....creeepy! I'll have to send you a copy of these pictures. Kelly said everyone who was around took notice and it was really weird. Cal and Frankie didn't know what was happening at the time but they started to wonder what was going on as people started to stare in their direction! Take care. Tracy
