Today was the day we visited one of the most famous sights in Turkey, Ephesus. Ephesus is the best preserved Greco-Roman town in the eastern Mediterranean and we had a very experienced and entertaining guide, Ali, to bring it all to life for us.

Ali also showed us around the ruins of the Basilica of St John were John wrote his gospel and it is thought was later buried.

Finally we went to a place of pilgrimage, Mary’s House. Religious and other evidence suggests that the Virgin Mary spent the last days of her life here and this was verified by Pope Paul VI during a visit in 1967. Despite the numbers of tourists,it was a very peaceful place to finish a tiring day.
