I ultimately spent 2 nights in Antalya which I think was a mistake since there isn't much to be done in Antalya. The harbor is relatively nice, but it doesn't take long to see, and the city otherwise was rather dull. I went on a 2-hour boat cruise, which was nice enough, but it didn't seem to be worth my 30 lira, even though that's a decent price.
I also spent a few hours working on some work for my papers, and got my part all sorted out, which allowed me to leave for Olympos because I guessed (rightfully it turned out), that internet and computer access in Olympos would be a bit more challenging.
After I got all my stuff sorted out in Antalya, I left for Olympos by minibus. It was something like a 1.5 hour trip to the main road above Olympus, then a 3 lira minibus down to the Olympus beach. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of Antalya and into a life of simplicity. I had planned to meet up with a guy I met in Cappadocia, and I sucessfully did right as soon as I arrived at my
pension in Olympos.
Olympos itself is pretty much just a bunch of pensions along a main road, and without that, there is basically nothing else in Olympos. The nice thing is the pension I stayed at is basically the last one right before the beach, though even so it is still a bit of a hike to get to the beach.
The beach itself has beautiful water, but the beach is painful to walk on since it is formed nearly entirely of largish rounded stones.
After I arrived at Bayram's (the pension), my friend and I and another Kiwi headed to the beach for a swim. For some reason, perhaps the peace of mind and the beauty of the water, I began to push myself towards swimming further and further out into the water. For those that know me, this should come as quite a surprise. I am not usually much of a swimmer, and I realized that the biggest thing that was keeping me from enjoying the water was fear. So I said to hell with the fear and eventually swam out to a boat moored off the beach and swam back. Ok, so it wasn't
exactly very far from the beach, but it was psychologically miles away. I was very proud of myself. I am starting to really like swimming, even though I am in bad shape for swimming. My Canadian friend that I am going to be traveling with is an excellent swimmer, and I am hoping to get her to give me what passes for swimming lessons since my mechanics are crap. It will be nice for her to have a fellow swimmer as well.
The first night at Bayram's we spent at the bar there chatting with the waitress, and sharing some R-rated stories. The second night I wasn't feeling 100%, so the other two guys went to Kadir's looking for a party, but they said it wasn't too hopping. Oh well.
Then after two days in Olympos, I headed out for Fethiye.
