Bernie's birthday today so we started the day with some (very) early morning birthday text messages!!
While we were at breakfast the heavens opened, so we decided that we would take the bus to Göltürkbükü, another small village on the Bodrum Peninsula. We asked at the front desk if we could catch that bus at the top of the hill without needing to go into the bus station in Bodrum. After some discussion, the staff at the front desk seemed to agree that we would be able to catch the bus up on the main road.
Up on the main road we joined a couple of people waiting for the bus to Göltürkbükü outside one of the other hotels in Torba. They had caught the bus before so were able to tell us that it runs about every half hour-ish. Of course we had just missed the 10.30am bus and had to wait the full half hour until the next bus arrived at about 11.00am.
Over the hill in Göltürkbükü the weather was gorgeous!! What a shame we didn't bring our bathers with us but, of course, I did have my raincoat with me today. We wandered along
the sea front which was a hive of activity, building activity. There don't seem to be many tourists in Göltürkbükü yet, but they were building sea front decks and painting and repairing things for the summer tourist season which will really kick off in the next couple of weeks.
After a couple of drinks in a restaurant on the sea front we caught the bus back to Torba. It was still cloudy and several degrees cooler back in Torba. Damn! We went to the pancake snack bar for lunch again, but took them over by the Hawaiian Pool to eat. After lunch we ventured around to the main pool only to find that the cushions on the sun beds were still damp from this morning's rain. So we tried the mesh sun beds on the beach and found that they were dry enough to lounge about on reading. By 5.30pm the weather was actually quite nice, but by then it was time to get ready for dinner!
We splurged on dinner tonight for Bernie's birthday and booked the Teppanyaki restaurant. This is the only a la carte restaurant that is not included in the 'all-inclusive' package at the
Voyage Torba. Even though we had to pay extra for this dining experience it was very reasonably priced at TL 25.00/head. That's about AUS$15.00 which seems cheap to us for a Teppanyaki meal. The Teppanyaki chef was a woman and she was very serious and precise - not at all like other Teppanyaki chefs we have seen who bounce the salt and pepper shakers on the teppan and throw your fried rice at you!! The food was delicious though, even if the overall experience was not as entertaining as expected.
Albert agreed that we could play cards tonight if that was what Bernie wanted to do ... since it was his birthday. Thank goodness, Albert finally won a game of Jo. Kath won Blobs. Perhaps with his losing streak broken Albert will agree to play cards again tomorrow night??
