my favourite position - watching the bubbles rise...
WOW! a wreck divers paradise! meant to be one of the top 10 wrecks dives in the world, and said to be the best dive in the mediteranean! The zenobia wreck is a ferry that was carrying 104 articulated trucks when she sank in 1980 just off the shore of larnaka, cyprus. Today the wreck is largely in tact - starting at 18m, and bottoms at 45m.

The first dive was an orientation from the bow, along the railing and then swimming along side the deck which is vertical due to the ship resting on her side. There are a few cranes, both the anchors, and all the rigging still on the wreck, although covered by a fair amount of seaweed! this was fascinating, but second to the afternoon dive where we went inside the accomodation and resturant areas. These had partly collapsed and was so spooky as we had no torches and were relying on the sun to reach us so deep, and still penetrate the cabin windows.. the sun had decided to hide behind the clouds just at that point! Had about 70m worth of swim throughs, some very small spaces, but really awesome! The life boats and

trucks are also largely intact, and very obvious as to what they were. Hundreds of fishies had made the wreck their home, and descending onto it required descending through walls of bream with baracuda slicing through the schoals like knives... then hiding underneath railings and dark spots were HUGE grouter. Never seen such a large fish, unless its a shark!

Tonight between lindsay and Flynn, they found a "non-wrinkley!" - a friend's nephew - so we went to some music show he was reporting on. What a disaster - so walked around the old town checking out Nicosia by night.. not unlike any other city around the world - although if you listen carefully you will hear greek and not english! even had a starbucks!

sadly only 2 full days left in cyprus.. and then back to work!
