TRAVELBLOG SITE HAD A PROBLEM IMAGES NOT SHOWING - PROBLEM NOW RESOLVED.
Updates now a little behind.
Returning to Paphos after 30 years
One thing that hasn't changed is the hospitality and friendliness of the people.
This is one of our Fly 'n' Flop holidays so will be mostly relaxing but I'm sure I'll find enough to photograph & tell you about over the coming days.
We had a good flight and landed about 20 minutes early which made up for the slight delay we had on takeoff.
There are many hotels here owned by the Constantinuous Brothers - Ours is Athena Royal Beach approx. 4km from Paphos town.
We received an ice cold drink with a very warm welcome, first impression so far so good.
We were escorted to our room on the 3rd floor (There are no hotels here higher than 4 floors). A nice room overlooking the pool area and the sea beyond.
We decided to go down and have a drink before unpacking.
As we sat on the verandah the staff below us were preparing tables for the evening BBQ.
It was soon time
to head back to our room and unpack but as we got up the reception manageress came up to us and said that she had noted that we had requested a walk in shower which they had not given us (We knew it was a request only and as the bath had a handrail we did not mention it).
We were offered an upgrade to a suite room at no additional costs and taken to see the room on the 4th Floor. The sea view was a little to the left but the room was really spacious, had a day bed on the balcony and not only a huge walk in shower but a bath too.
So we took them up on this generous offer, the bell boy brought up our suitcases and we are now settled in our beautiful room (I think we could take in lodgers it is so large).
Unpacked, showered and we headed down to the restaurant. Another warm welcome by staff, the Cypriot musicians were playing, there was a lovely atmosphere as we sat outside to enjoy the first night of our holiday.
The displays of salads all looked
Pleasant enough room
Before our upgrade! very tempting, so much to choose from but we wanted to leave space for the BBQ, a choice of chicken, lamb, pork, beef, fish, vegetables all cooked fresh by the chefs.
It wasn't long before local folklore dancers joined the musicians and of course later it was time for some of the guests to be having a go, by then we had escaped to the verandah for a drink whilst listening to a vocalist in the spacious lounge area.
Well first night came to an end, we already feel relaxed and look forward to enjoying our time here in Cyprus.
Friday morning, as we are what they call 'Elite guests' we can eat in one of the restaurants that are less busy, although have to say whilst there are lots of people here it never feels crowded.
Another friendly welcome and the girl who showed us to our table had the brightest magenta lipstick I have ever seen.
Lots of choice for breakfast and a first for me, honey straight from the honeycomb!
Plenty of sun beds around the pool or on the grassed areas and each with an umbrella
so we set up camp, David relaxed and I went for a little stroll.
There is a walkway that passes in front of all of the hotels which I heard someone say goes all the way into Paphos, but 4kms in the heat maybe not, so it'll be a taxi for us.
There were cabanas, part of our hotel, dotted along the edge of the water, but nobody occupying them, probably an additional charge and whilst they looked idyllic they were a bit away from the facilities.
Continuing my stroll passing water sports, public beach areas and other hotels it was getting rather hot so I returned back to the hotel and we both enjoyed a swim in one of the inviting looking pools.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing, enjoying a drink whilst watching the paragliders and boats ply to and fro and a light lunch at one of the restaurants surrounded by olive trees overlooking the sea, no surprise that it's called Olive Tree Cafe.
Another swim, chatting to other guests and then ready for our meal this evening an Oriental themed buffet. All very
enjoyable, impeccable service and our girl this evening had the brightest ever purple colour lipstick!
A drink whilst listening to the pianist in the lounge brought to an end a day that we can easily get used too.
