After gregorys we came back to plan the next couple days of our vacation. Tx started to tell me about a couple ideas but I couldnt keep my eyes open I was sleeping by 10;30.. then we got a knock on the door around midnight or so asking for Constance. It was kinda comical in away because the guy was so delirious that he knocked on the wrong door. When we asked what can we do for him he looked at us like he was a deer in headlights. The 4/4 we woke up early because breakfast was only being served until 9:15 and we wanted to attempt the un atemptable.. walk into town. While we were walking we got honked at like a million times its as if they have ever seen a pedestrian.
We finally got to town and went to the information center and they were not very helpful. We then went to the Piedrious Museum which had a ton of artifacts from every period of Cyprus' history. While we were there a student group came in and I saw a girl with an UNH equestrian shirt on. She must have heard my American accent and we
started talking a little, she is on her semester abraod and is a classics major. We were wondering into town and stumbled on their shuk, we saw fresh veggies tons of olives as well as peanut brittle. and also this almond carob jelly concoction. It is only open on saturday so we were so lucky we stumbled on it when we did.
We then wondered onto the church of Lazerous. This was very cool since it has been standing from the Byzantine empire. We then wondered to the promenade to see if there were any good lunch places. We found this little bar/cafe with salads and dairy so that we didnt feel like we ate something so heavy. As we were eating we decided that we would go back to the hotel since the entire country takes a break from 2-6 pm and then opens agai for dinner around 7-8. We knew that we would be walked back and thought it would be funny to time it to actually see how long it takes us to walk for the other days of our vacation since the "public transportation" only runs every 1/2 and hour and we are not sure
if that is true at all. We left town at 3:15 and we got back at 4:45. We were thinking that it would have been nice if our travel agent would have told us about NO transportation as well as that our hotel is not in the city center. We will make due because we are troopers but that was a VERYYY long walk but I am thinking now that we might be in cyprus for one day too long.. we will see though.
There is still one thing that I am so confused about this country. There are not Cypriot flags around. The spoken language is gree and there are some Greek flags around. So is it, its own country or apart of Greece? We went to dinner at the tavern that was next to our hotel, there was a sign of live music. We thought that was a good idea to stay pretty local, we go this mean that was fro two people it was called mezze it was breads, spreads galore. As we were sitting and eating we were noticing al the waiters are probably family and people stated to dance as well. It turned out
to be a pretty awesome evening. It was like it was out of the movie my big fat greek wedding.
Alright I walked six miles today and I am exhausted... bed early.... lila
