Larnaka today. We took the motorway to get there, very easy and all the major roads are really good. Our only 'road' problem is the tiny scale of our tourist maps which don't necessarily show when a road is unpaved. We try to avoid those. Satnav handily took us to a free big parking area behind the Marina. The one we meant to go to was charged so well done to the Satnav. Larnaka beach is beautifully sandy and about a mile long with a promenade with eating places liningall along the back. We chose the sea route and paddled all the way to the centre. The sea is really shallow. People were metres and metres out and still only up to their knees. A major seaside resort with row upon row of occupied sunbed... read more

Cats, historical sites, flamingos and more December is a very dark, cold and wet month in Sweden. Since Ake doesn't like when it is dark, cold and wet and since he also usually has time off from work in the end of December he always tries to go abroad this time of the year. This year Emma couldn't go with him so he had to travel alone. And he went to Cyprus. Cyprus is a country and an island in the Mediterranean Sea. The northern part of Cyprus has since the 1970-ies been occupied by Turkey. Since I have already visited North Cyprus I felt no need to go there on this trip. Instead my plan was to focus on visiting the south. Here in this blog entry I will write about what I did and ... read more

We had now come to the last couple of days of the trip, a trip that had seen us so far sample three very different environments; the strange atmosphere of the divided city of Nicosia; a slice of Turkey in Northern Cyprus; and then the unique, energetic and intriguing liberal Arabic vibe of Beirut. Now we were back in Cyprus and we were going to explore what the Greeks and British have left behind in the Republic Of Cyprus. It had been a long day being carted across the Lebanese countryside and at the end of it, we now we were on our flight back over to Larnaca where we arrived around midnight. We had still to arrange a rental car however so we still had to keep going a bit longer before we could ge ... read more

Day 171 Thursday 7th July 2016 – Nicosia – Pernera Damn us for booking our accommodation a week ahead, because honestly could have easily stayed in Nicosia another week – just love this city. Heading to the coast again today to a region that has been described as hedonistic heaven – still don’t know why we are, except to sample another side of life on this island. Had wanted to tour the Turkish side some more but it has very limited tourist facilities and combined with the end of Ramadan it just seemed too hard. The guy running the kitchen at our hotel is as un Greek as you could possibly meet, perhaps the happiest man we have ever met, with his favourite saying each morning being “I am better than yesterday, and worse ... read more

July 13, 2015 – Apparently Paul did not get the memo. He came at 2am, a full hour early. I was asleep and pretty freaked out when the bell rang, and then I was a bit out of it while I got ready. He helped me get a taxi outside and I got to the airport a full 90 minutes before I could check-in. I sat on some artificial grass under the escalators that I heard all the backpackers sleep on when they get to the airport early or arrive too early in the morning to get into town. I didn’t sleep, but it was a good place to wait half dazed. I checked in at 4:30 and then went to the gate and laid down on a bench for an hour. They started to board ... read more

Having lived abroad for almost 3 years now, I have been given so many opportunities to experience life in ways that I never imagined I could. It has opened my eyes to an entire world I had no idea really, actually existed... In some ways, Earth is exceptionally small. Compared with the rest of the universe we are a tiny, minute spec of both existence and time. The human race of today will only be present for such a short amount of forever. To the rest of the endless universe, we barely make any difference at all. I spend a surprising amount of time thinking about this rather depressing thought! And it always leaves me thinking about the ways in which we lead our lives. I understand that each individual is different, and people find happiness ... read more

SEE TEXT IN ENGLISH BELOW 3 diciembre 2011 En Chipre hacía sol, y el sol era templado.

Our surprise destination: cyprus. We didnt decide o do this part of the trip ahead of time. We thought we's want to spend a few more days at the end of the tour in egypt, but we knew early on that we didnt. Also because of the constant travelling we thought it would be nice to hit the beach for a bit. Cyprus is pretty close to egypt and a friend of ours on the tour knew someon who loved it so we booked our flights and it was easy .  Today was quite an uneventful travel day.  We were dropped off by taxi at the bus station and we took the VIP bus (safe for tourists or for people who wanted to pay more for a nicer coach) to the Cairo airport. We were ... read more
