After taking the amazing trip last year, I had figured that maybe that was it for such far flung destinations for a fair while. But then came an email offering a 9 day, 8 night MSC cruise leaving from Genoa, Italy and traveling to Malaga, Spain, Casablanca, Morocco, Lisbon, Potugal, Barcelona, Spain and finishing off at Marseille, France.

Casablanca? ….. That got me interested. I looked into it and found that with a single supplement and an ocean view cabin (It has a window), it was only about $1200. Bargain for 8 nights, food and five countries. Plus, being the economical traveller that I am, I had more than that left from the last trip.

So then the research and planning started.

Last year, my flights were booked through Qantas, but as fate would have it, all four flights ( Melbourne to and from Dubai, and Dubai to and from Athens) I flew Emirates. I have to say, Emirates were very, very good. So this year I booked directly with Emirates. They have a new party trick this year. You leave Melbourne at 5am, and get to Rome at about 8pm that night.

So with the return flights to Rome booked, then it was time to get out the maps, spreadsheet, youtube (Rick Steves channel) and Lonely Planet books (Europe on a shoestring).

More soon.
