"Just after the election the government announced they’d crack down on secret lobbying by launching a register of lobbyists. This was huge win for us. It would force big business to be more transparent about lobbying - something we’ve been campaigning on together for a long time.

But we’ve just heard some worrying news. The minister responsible for the lobbying register, Mark Harper MP, has set up meetings with professional lobbyists and is refusing to meet anti-lobbying activists. There’s a real risk that the government’s trying to carve our a back room deal that will mean big business can continue distorting politics with back room deals.

Secret lobbying is a big problem. Whether it’s the Digital Economy Bill, plans for a new runway at Heathrow, tobacco advertising or arms deals, too often it feels like lobbyists are calling the shots behind closed doors.

Only a people powered outcry can stop this happening. Please write to your MP now and urge them to contact the Minister
