I am just starting to plan a backpacking trip to Europe for summer 2011. I've never traveled around by myself and have pretty much no clue on what I'm doing. Does anyone have tips or ideas to share about going backpacking? I'm planning on traveling around for 4-6 weeks and at least going to Ireland, England, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. I might go elsewehere if I feel like it, but this is just a start. Any advice, stories or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Also, can anyone give me an idea on how much money I should take with me and expect to spend?
