Clonfert/Clonmacnoise

A day long field trip entirely in the rain. Fortunately we could find cover inside both these sites. These were visits to Clonfert Cathedral and Clonmacnoise Monastery which are remnants of the powerful early Christian era of Irish History. We also saw roundtowers which were used by monks to protect valuables such as illustrated manuscripts. The stonework was impressive, and these sites are revered by the Irish to this day.

I love the color of the stone against the amazing green. Why was that particular tree worshipped?

Wow -- fascinating! especially the contrast (or not?) of cathedrals and spirits/tree worship.
