Newlyn harbour
Fishing boats in Newlyn harbour with the view back across Mount Bay in the background Day Three
Marazion to Lands End
27 miles overall total 99 miles
(Bodmin - Lands End via Lizard 89 miles)
Beautiful views across to St Michaels Mount when I arrived last night and again this morning
Stayed in a very comfortable guest house .
Followed the Sustrans road along the edge of the bay past Penzance, the fishing port of Newlyn and on to the picturesque fishing village of Mousehole.
Climbed the hill out of Mousehole and meandered on pretty minor roads to Lands End
As I laboured up the hill out of Lamorna met freinds from my home village in Wales - Julie and Chris and their daughters were holidaying just down the road. Later on I met them again in St Just!
Lands End is beautifully rugged but is
ruined by the
retail/visitor experience!!! 874 miles to John o Groats!
As I'd spent two days getting here - going the wrong way ! I didn't delay in setting off in the right direction
Three quarters of a mile up the scenic off road Sustrans bike path there was the first unmistakeable Sustrans signpost
What a morale booster to see
that the distance to John o Groats increases by a mere 666.75 miles by following the Sustrans route (1446.75 miles)!
Notwithstanding, the short off road route gave delightful views of the coast and Sennen Cove.
Lovely weather but a stiffening headwind. cycled on through the old tin mining town of St Just and past old mines to climb high up on to the moors of West Penwith where I stayed with my old college friend Graham
Finished off a fine day with a stroll over the moors to look at the ancient stones of Men an Tol
Total for day 27 miles
