mighty pig van
how not to blend in,in country wales. Hey Sarah (she is our biggest reader... or maybe our only one) and other Camp K & K subscribers ,
So this might seem a little random, seen everyone knows that we are back in the great land of Australia for a little while. The weather in grand old Bathurst today is rainy and cold and I have been going though my notes of our might pig van adventures of the U.K and I haven’t written these up yet so I thought I would.
So campervaning or booting as it is called in the U.K was how we entertained ourselves for the last 2 weeks of our time in the mother land. First lesson learnt when hiring a van from wicked camper enquire what is on the van first. It is extremely hard to blend into the great Britain country side and during school holidays when your van has cartoon pigs showing there love for each other all over it. We thought would be hard enough to blend in, let alone jumping out of a cartoon porn show at every stop. The up side of that and yes there is always up sides. We did get allot of
welsh bushwalk
kaz does know how to bushwalk, she doesnt like it,but she can do it. cheap nights in caravan parks due to the owners trying to hide us and the van from view. For example we stayed in a cow paddock, in the owner’s yard in a sheep paddock. Cut the price by a fair bit. I think most of them felt sorry for us. Kaz put on that damsel in distress and cheap nights were ours. In a nut shell this was our trip.........
*Always carry a good map with you, the ones from information centres all assist in the getting lost process. Especially on the tiny British one way roads.
*Always remember to check fuel level before deciding to take a short lovely cut or you end up in very small farming areas where we were definitely the centre of attention while searching for fuel.
*Don't attempt bush walking the day after you go coasteering because your muscles are already sore. For those who don't know coasteering is where idiots decide to climb cliffs near the ocean and then jump off the cliffs into the ocean and then climb the cliffs and do it again ie kaz.
*The barnacles are sharper then they look when you are coasteering and
8/10
the sommersulting coasteering queen.it didnt even hurt. the cuts hurt for a few days after the event.
*All roads are narrow and this is why the English are so good a queuing and then whining at having to queue.
*Have i mentioned the pig van...
*You have to visit the English seaside promenade ie BLACKPOOL. Just so you believe that towns like this really do exist. Street arcades, pinball parlours donkey rides on the beach, the whole works, unbelievable. We did seem to fit in with the pig van a little more easily in Blackpool though.
*Find out how many cranes are in a place before you visit, we think information centres should have the number of cranes on display somewhere and if there is more then 5 in use near or around the major tourist attractions just keep driving.
*With this fact in mind, don’t visit Cardiff for 5 to 10 years. Then it will be an amazing city to see.
*You will get beeped at if you don’t drive at 150km an hour on their freeways. In theory driving that fast sounds fun, in reality it is stupid. They weren’t beeping at us because we were in our pig
another castle
the only shot without a crane in it, in cardiff. van. "I don’t think" :-)
*All tourist sites in the U.K are at least twice the age of Australia.
*Don’t let Kaz boil milk, it will take you 2 days to get the smell of spilt milk out of the van.
*Our pig van did make a great laundry
* You should never run back from going to the toilet in the bush cause you are scared and if you have someone else's shoes on because you will fall over and twist your ankle.
* Kristy drives because she is hopeless at navigation or is geographically challenged and she also uses motion sickness as an excuse. (thanks kaz)
*Ipods are the best invention so far, they keep Kaz entertained for hours and aren’t a bad replacement for television.
So they are my thoughts of our trip and I will just to say that Wales is a beautiful part of this world. We did get told that we had been blessed with the weather because it didn’t rain one day while we were there. The mountains were clear and the coast was a perfect blue (I don’t know what a perfect blue is exactly,
Jump higher maggie
oh what a feeling York.. but you can imagine it I’m sure). We actually got sun burnt in Wales. We both enjoyed driving around for the two weeks we took in a lot of history, history of the castles, the abbeys, the Manchester united football team, which was really interesting, it’s a great tour if you are into your soccer. We went down into a copper mine, hard hats and everything. Camped in the national parks with nothing nor anyone near us, the peace and quite was bliss. the small streams that run from the ice capped mountains was great way to start the day and the cows that would wonder over to see what was going on.
So stay tuned we will be heading back at some stage, hopefully sooner then later. We will find out what my dads treatment is going to be at the end of this week. So hopefully we will have return tickets worked out and destinations worked out. Hope everyone is well, and hope to hear from you all soon.
love as always k and k
