Trip as 21st bithday present for me with my Mum. Stayed in nice B&B with friendly ex-banker now turned b&b lady. Great city did a lot of shopping & alot of walking Edinburgh is dominated by the castle, perched on a volcanic plug at the top end of the Royal Mile.
So we went along the Royal Mile at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of the Queen. Had look at the the ceremonial apartments and the chambers used by , Mary, Queen of Scots. This long thoroughfare changes its name several times on its way up, from the Esplanade to Castlehill, The Lawnmarket, the High Street and Canongate. The Royal Mile ends at the dramatic Edinburgh Castle, whose royal apartments contain the Scottish crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny & Edinburgh's Old Town sits astride the Royal Mile. Spent the last night in Glasgow as we could only a flight back from there, with another lady who wasn't really a b&b but took in paying guests anyway. QED.
