Alex and I and a friend - a different Linda - went for a lovely long walk yesterday on an old racecourse, which was built a while ago by french prisoners during the Napoleonic wars. That led us to the Offas Dyke path. King Offa was an English king about 1,000 years ago, who had a dyke (wall/rampart) built along the border with Wales to keep the Welsh out. It is still a visible monument for much of its length, possibly 177 miles, and there is a long distance footpath along it too. Maisie liked it too.

Those Welsh!!
Why ever would the Welsh want to invade England - they have a lovely land of their own!!. Anyway, hadn't they heard of the saying : "an Offa you cannot resist..." ??
