So we find a non gay bar to watch Eurovision at... A little bar called the Victoria Bar just a little out of the centre of town.. The taxi driver asked why we were going there and of course we were happy to share our reasons why.... He just shook his head at us and laughed. Seems that pretty much is the standard reaction we get.
The bar is owned by Swedish owners and is a little eclectic... Funky, grungy type of crowd. Our first mission is to find the best viewing position of the screen... There weren't many options but Ana got the best spot of the room... Right in thoroughfare between the back of the room and the bar! I think everyone in the bar rubbed up against her at least twice! But she looked like she was enjoying it... So I just left her there..... The main event starts.... Hosted by Graham Norton! Yay!!! There were people of many nationalities around us who were cheering on their homelands... And many of the seemed to know the words to all the songs! But have to say... The whole bar loved Greece! With a song titled "alcohol is free!"
who wouldn't! The shows over and we decided to move on and not wait for the voting to finish.... We were told of some good bars in the Grassmarket area.... And trust us... But we find the PJ's of Edinburgh!!! "The Beehive Inn".. It's going off... Lots of cool retro music... And lots of happy people having a wee drink and dance! We start to mingle and can't believe who we see across the room..... He sees us and tries to hide... But we find him... (See pics) I think he's stalking us!!! The night progresses and we make new friends.... A Welsh guy called Stuart who wouldn't let Ana off the dance floor. We also meet a group of Royal Navy officers who were in town to farewell their old ship the HMAS Edinburgh! It was their 25 year anniversary of the last journey the made together which was to Australia.... So you can imagine how excited they were to know we were Aussies! They offer to buy us dinner.... But we let them off easy with a basket of French fries! Ana had more than I had. The fries are good here! One of them was telling us
of a bar in Kings cross that they visited... Yep... The old Oz Rock cafe! He couldn't believe that I knew it! Unfortunately the night comes to an early end as the bars close at 1pm.. The sailors wants us to party on with them at another bar but we decide to call it a night ourselves.... But alas... Not so easy to catch a cab..... But what we do find is a tri cycle type cab comes by with a rider and a 2 seat carriage at the back.... We decide to be adventurous as take the offer of the ride....I'm worried for the poor chappy as imagine pulling me around town... But he tells me he's taken blokes much bigger than me so not to worry... Thanks mate for comparing me to a guy! 😞 We hop in... As he starts to cycle in the opposite direction.... he's cycling up to his fellow cyclist to ask for directions.... we tell them that its near the bridge and one replies... "is that near KFC?!" WTF! is he making fun of me too!!!! They eventually work out where we want to go and we get a blanky and hold on
for dear life! As he struggles to pedal and breath whilst riding up the hills through the city! A crowd of girls on a Hens night cheer him on by the side of the road!!! "You can do it!" they say.... how embarasshment! Down hill was pretty much easy for him but I swear.... I thought we were going to die! I yell out...."hey! Don't kill us... It's only day 4 of our 92 day holiday!" Lol... We make it to the hotel safe! Phew... But our tummies are so sore from laughing the whole way. Time for bed now... Big day tomorrow!
