The New Lanark Cotton Mill was built in the late 18th Century, Robert Owen took over and greatly improved the lives of the workers through education, reducing working hours, and providing better accomodation and food...I'd still rather not work in a cotton mill though. Here are more details:

We caught the train out early on Saturday 1st December morning ( the 1st day of Winter) and arrived back home late that night. Given it was dark by 4 it felt even later! So we had to have fish and chips for dinner then straight to bed. We we're lucky there were not delays as we had to change trains at Carluke on the way out and Motherwell on the way home, and we caught the last bus from New Lanark to the train station. I think we'll wait til we've got a car next time!!
