This weekend was Edinburgh Doors Open Day 2011. On Saturday I took a detour past the Fire Museum and ended up at the Sheriff Department. I took a tour and watched a mock trial. I then wandered in the wrong direction and by the time I got to the John Knox House the tickets were sold out so I went to the Simpsons House. Of course it was closed by the time I got there so all in all it was a bit of a dissapointing day. It was the Harvest Dinner at the church. They had Cottage Pie for dinner and Apple Pie for dessert. I have now learned that it is called Shepard's Pie when it is made with lamb and Cottage Pie when it is made with beef. I didn't know that before, I always called both of them Shepard's Pie. Sunday was a better day. After church I went on a tour of the vaults. After that I had a look around a tapestry studio that used to be a bath house. It would have been more interesting they had actually been working or if we were allowed to try our hand at tapestry weaving. I ended

the day with a tour of the old Calton Burial Ground.
The photo's were not working. I was only allowed to upload 100 at a time and I finally finished writing the titles and a description for them. (But not the other 50 or so pictures). So I went to upload them...which took a good 30 minutes, and what happens when it is all done...I get an error message!! So I am doing them in smaller batches. This post has the National Museum.

More bank notes from different banks. In Scotland there are still two banks, The Bank of Scotland and the Clydesdale Bank that are still allowed to print their own money. Of course the rest of England doesn't really accept their money, but in Scotland it is all legal tender.
