Dear All Greetings from Carrbridge, a small village in the northern parts of the Caingorms National Park, quiet, with a population of just over 700 people – 708 to be exact. Gosh, this is remote. Having just arrived from the touristy town of Ballater, a seeming metropolis in comparison, it has taken a bit of time to wind down a gear and adjust to village life – a place where everyone seems to... Osprey Nest
Indeed - it was great to see it, even though there weren't any ospreys nesting in it.

Car
You need to invest in getting or hiring a car, for ease getting around more easily. I sense you're living on Pot Noodles for dinner, a quick and easy alternative for someone who doesn't have much time ? Great blog and a lovely part of the world for exploring

Car
Funnily enough, I'm getting a car straight after I finish my trip! But I still think I'd travel on public transport, I find it very enjoyable, and a good way to see local life. Yep, Pot Noodles are great, particularly as I find it a bit awkward eating on my own in pubs and restaurants in this country. And there are so many new varieties now too choose from...! ? Thank you for your kind comment, and for reading my blog Alan ?

What beautiful, wild, scenery Alex! I look forward to you writing about your time in Culloden, as my knowledge of the Jacobite uprising and the Battle of Culloden is limited to the TV series Outlander :). And you were wondering about my Scottish ancestry, yes I have Scottish (and Irish and English) ancestry. My grandfather was born in Glasgow.

Scenery
Thanks Lori. Yes, the scenery in the Scottish Highlands is just amazing! I haven't gotten into "Outlander" yet, but I may give it a try when I get back. It would be interesting to see the Jacobite Uprising and Battle of Culloden in it. Ah, very interesting ancestry, much from this part of the world it seems! ? I'm off to Glasgow tomorrow, I'm quite excited to go there actually!

Off the beaten track
Well done... you found peace and quiet-- and have managed to pull together transportation. The mountain drive sounded lovely. I love the history of the area and you managed to embrace a great deal of nature and a variety of birds. I'm glad you did not stay in the tourist area. Those travel gods have been on your side once again.

Off the beaten track
Thank you Merry! I do feel very blessed with the way my trip has gone so far ? And there is so much history, nature and beauty here!

Adaptability has its rewards!
Being so adaptable to cobble together transportation for this part of your trip certainly paid off handsomely! Really beautiful the places you saw in the Highlands and so much history to complement it as well. The history surrounding the Stuart & Hanoverian lines of royalty, and the Battle of Culloden are something I need to study again (I'm only confident of the line from Queen Victorian onward). We visited Grantown-on-Spey but I only remember the hotel, and the fact that the sun did not set 'til after 11pm and rose again at 3am!! I think the Old Pack Horse Bridge is quite incredible (and very step I'd say). I hope you were able to repair the little Loch Ness Monster! Another very interesting blog and great photos, Alex!

Adaptability
Thanks Sylvia. I think the taxi ride from Ballater to Carrbridge was one of the most beautiful trips on my Scotland travels. Nice to read that you've also been in the area. I really liked Grantown-on-Spey. Indeed, I also learned lots about 18th century British and royal history. Yes, there were long daylight hours when I was there too. Indeed, I fixed my little Nessie with superglue when I got home ?

Not Functional
Indeed, you're right. It's not functional, and fenced off to the visitor. The photo was taken from the more modern road bridge just next to it.
